    Formula One GP

I believe the 2010 season there is a U.S Team entering Formula One GP. Wow finally a U.S team, I'm not sure who or what they are calling themselves but they have put an entry in. Can't wait to find out !! It's about time. Stewy

    Re: Formula One GP

Stewy, after the Formula One Team's Association threatend to walk on F1 Max Mosley, of scandal fame, agreed to a $40 million Euro budget, dependent upon configurations, so eight teams have voiced interest. The team most advanced to date is the "US" team of Ken Anderson, former Ligier Technical Director, and Peter Windsor, former Williams team boss for Frank and F1 Speed announcer.

Button got 5 of 6 at Monaco today! I am stilll pulling for Massa since Michael retired.

Stewy, do you attend the F1 in Australia?

I watch all the races and have stopped going to the Australian GP for the seating is not as crash hot as I would like. I have sat in every stand and I'm at a preference to watch it on my 60 inch plazma with my windows open I can still here them pretty well from my house. The last race I attended I had the best seats and still didn't know who was winning and didn't know who had one.
Braun GP is doing very well this year and I love hearing Barrachello sooking about why he never wins as for Ferrari I don't care for them. I have a sweat spot for MacLarren. Ferrari looks like they will start to be a lot more competitive in the next few races Kimi is starting to catch on. Stewy

        Re: Formula One GP

I watched the GP this morning and was more impressed by the level of competition this year. It is nice to see the new teams and former back markers in the running now. Years before, all you needed to do was watch the first lap to see who was going to win among Ferrari, McClaren or Renault. This new team Brawn is a start up this year, owned by the fellow that used to be the tech director at Ferrari during Michael Schumacher's time. I guess, when michael retired, he left them as well.

Then we have the Honda 500 run at Indy today - a race whose interest is found in the personalities only. It's something like the Pine Wood Derby where everyone is given the same block of Japanese cherry wood to make a car as long as it's called Dallera and power by a secret Honda power plant run on rice fuel. Who ever figures out the secret to make their's go the fastest, i.e. file the clinches off the nails and use silicon spray on the wheels, will likely win.

Now we wait for Mother Nature to shut off the water valve so we can get the NASCAR 600 miler in.

No doubt alot more competition in F1 this year. I thought all of the teams d have therear diffuser by now. It works. I saw next to the last F1 at Indy before the Michelin fiasco. As for Indy, when we lived there we had tickets and went every year, including qualifications, practice, carb day. Tony pooed in his mess kit when he split up. Now it will take alot to get back where they were---premier race in the US. Sports cars tomorrow---I think.

Great weather and a good race yesterday. The harbor had some amazing boats/ships in it. When the 86.5 footer looked very tiny, I realized that I was out of my league. No Corvettes so far, lots of F cars.

I was referring to the Jaguar Formula 1 effort, not the road cars. I should have quoted the OP...

Stewart; I'm Stuart! Jackie is "Stewart" like you!

The KERS system sounds like the opposite of Dynamic Braking. Very interesting. First I've heard what it stood for. Thanks.

You know, if it worked too well for Ferrari the FIA would outlaw it quick. Suspect they are holding back so as to not be too successful right off.

                          Re: Formula One GP

The team did reasonably well as Stewart, but when purchased by Jaguar (owned by Ford), it did worse. Ford sent over a top U.S. exec. to run the team, and it performed even worse.

You've got KERS right. KERS is the F1 equivalent of a hybrid. A generator is hooked to the wheel. The generator (when energized) requires torque to turn. That braking torque generates an electric current, which is stored in a battery. The battery drives an electric motor (when energized) that adds 70 bhp to the drive axle.

Remarkable performance by Brawn this year. Good to see another team doing well. Makes the races fun to watch.

2010 the chiefs have signed off on a cap on spending. They have not come up with a figure but I can't imagine running these cars on a budget for the year. And how do you monitor the expenditure your talking hundreds of millions of dollars ?

For defs. and examples of KERS systems Google KERS---there are a few good examples of flywheel, battery and super capacitor storage. Williams and Ferrari each have explanations.
