Re: National Convention Dinner Trip

You are correct. The wine list and prices are on the order of those found at the Carnellian Room in San Francisco and at the old Imperial Dynasty in Hanford, CA (now closed).
Consequently, we will need to be very judicious about ordering wine lest the cost of the wine far exceed the cost of the dinner (I had this happen to me once at the Carnellian Room ).
As far as how we handle it when the check arrives, that was the ONE "faux pas" of the otherwise wonderful evening we had there in 2002. That time, folks tried to "contribute to the pot" based upon what they had ordered. That system just does not work, especially when beverages and wine are ordered on a "group" basis.
This time, I am going to strongly suggest that we simply divide up the total check, including tip, by the number of folks present and each person contribute that amount to the "pot". I realize that some folks might get "shorted" in this approach, but, in my experience over many years I've learned it's the only practical way to handle it. As a matter of fact, I do not drink wine or mixed drinks myself but I have no problem, whatsoever, in effectively sharing in the cost of those through equal sharing of the check. I also don't care that some folks may order more expensive menu items than me or that some may choose to have dessert while others don't.
