removal of spinners from 60 wheel covers

I admit my ignorance but I just purchased a set of 4 wheel covers with spinners in the era of "60 and need to be able to get the spinners off the wheel covers without damage so I can send them to be rechromed. Can anyone tell mehow to remove the spinners from the wheel covers without compromising either part?

1 Soak the screws in penetrating oil.
2 Using a thick towel or blanket, place hubcap upside down on your lap.
3 Using the appropriately sized phillips screwdriver, place screwdriver in each screw and firmly tap with a hammer.
4 Unscrew screw.
5 If screw head is stripped or damaged, carefully use a die grinder and remove the head of the screw and then work thread portion out with vice grips.
6 Drink a beer.
7 Repeat

Thank you so much for your blow by blow explanation. That is exactly what I needed to hear, but will it still work if I substitute wine in place of the beer??
