    1972 LT1 w/air

On another site I read that in 1972 all LT1 w/ air were built between Jan. and April. Or is this the current available information? Also, new to me is that the TI was not continued in 72?

Any thing else I can learn about these 72's with air?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Yes, Kevin, there were NO 1972 Chevrolet models (Corvette or otherwise) with transistor ignition from the factory. 1971 was the swan song for that “option” (and then only on LT1 and LS6, so it really wasn’t an option).

The first 1972 Corvette with AC has been well documented -- from memory the serial number is in the 10K range. That car was judged for Duntov Mark of Excellence in Lancaster, PA, many sleeps ago. Late 1980s, I believe. At that time there was an extensive article in The Corvette Restorer about the car, with photos of some of the documentation. The VIN on that car is a K code and the LT1 engine was installed at Warren, MI, so it was NOT a production car. I would have to look at records I don't have with me to find the build date of that car. I also have records of another production C-60 equipped LT1 that was delivered to a Chevrolet internal Zone and Dealer that was probably one of the first production Lt1s with C-60. From memory it was not too long after the test car mentioned above.

I can't imagine why there would not have been C-60 equipped LT1s built right up to the end of 1972 production in July 1972. Again, I would have to look at material at home to confirm that, but my "knee-jerk" reaction is the end date you have been given is off. The start date may be OK, but I can't confirm that from work.

Kevin, I'm not exactly sure on LT-1/Air dates, but I thought they started later than Jan. I was thinking they started in the march timeframe and ran through the rest of '72 production. Someone else will chime in I'm sure....

TI was gone for 72, except maybe for ZR-1 but I'm not 100% sure on that either.

Nope, not even on 1972 ZR1.

          Terry and Steve,

After reading the post on the other site I began to wonder. Just last night I bought a 72 LT1 w/ air built on May 10, 1972. From the original owner with all the original paper work. Very original right down to the license plate screws still in the envelope! I do think it's going to make for a great Bowtie candidate. The car will be with the P/O until the weekend due to bad weather.

I'm having a hard time containing myself!

Oh,49,000 miles! Steve, it's War Bonnet Yellow too!

That sounds like a really neat car. It will be fun to look at/judge. And with next year's National in North Carolina it just might work for you, if you can hit all the bases before then.

Check out what water pump it has.

And, that's not far from my friend's LT-1 AC car.

Congratulations Kevin! Let me know when I can come see it! My neighbor has a 72 LT1 with A/C but he keeps it upstate somewhere. It was taken apart but not reworked. You might like to share notes. I'm pretty excited myself!

I agree! I can't wait to get it in the garage and pre judge it myself. I was working on a Sportsman plaque but I guess that's going to the back seat now.

The P/O's are saying their goodbyes, I hope to have it home soon.
It is a neat find as Roy said! The car has never been shown and has been stored indoors very well for years and years. All original paint, my favorite!

Let's see how things work out, I do have my hotel reservations booked. I was hoping to drive to the meet for the Sportsman points. Maybe I'll drive the LT1?
