    Re: 1972 LT1 w/air

    Nice find!!!

I have had several Corvettes, undocumented to highly documented.

There was nothing like the experience of buying a car from the original owner as I did recently with my 62!!

I have had several conversations that I recorded with the original owner. He always has a new story to tell. To be able to gather that history not only for yourself but to hopefully pass it on is priceless!

Congratulations on the 62! That sounds like a pretty nice find too! I do agree with you on the feeling from being able to find and buy a car from the person that ordered it. It's amazing that this car wasn't torn apart, damaged and or otherwise abused all these years. Yes there are a few things that need to be put back on, but there was a box with all the original parts that were removed (smog system). I was probably a little quick at pulling the trigger and buying it after looking at the car for maybe an hour. Surely I'm going to be in for a few surprises, but it quacked and wattled! The paper work is just an added bonus, I bet the tank sticker is still there.

After a good cleaning I'll post a couple pictures for the gang.

      Thanks,

      Kevin

        Kevin,

That sounds like a great find. Both my LT-1 and Rob Cetrone's were built July 19, 1972 so they definitely built the LT-1 AC cars to the end of 72.

See you in NC next year.

        Enjoy your early Christmas!!!

                Kevin,
I have the base motor 71 Warbonnet coupe. We could complete a triple play. One of each motor type. Three warbonnet cars 1 - Big Block, 2 - LT-1 and 3 - ZQ3. Mine will be in Charlotte.

Had to be the same color! I don''t think I should complain to much! Thanks Tom. As I posted earlier I'll post some pic's after a good cleaning.

That would make for one hell of a collection! I don't think I can fit another just yet.............We'll see about Charlotte, I'll try? I was reading the JRM and it seems that I need to display the car at a regional and request the sign off. It's not required to have the car flight judged first, is this correct?
Thank you Mr. Dave Duntov Strickland

It would be neat to have the three parked right in line at the meet!

                    Kevin,
I don't know if a flight judge is a requirement or not but if you are taking it to a regional for a sign off then just have it judged at that meet too. That way you save a stop on your way to the Duntov by getting your 97+ (regional) at that time. See how easy it is...........
Thank you Mr. Dave Duntov Strickland

                      Kevin,

The FEB/MAR 1972 issue of Corvette News has a newsflash article from Joe Pike that states that GM has listened to their customers and will now offer the mechanical shaft LT-1 option with A/C. I can't imagine that there were any LT-1's built for the public to purchase prior to this announcement, and I believe this was the only printed information so stated.

                          Kevin,

Issues show up on ebay now and then. I often find them at Corvettes @ Carlisle's Corvette event every August.

Those three cars together would make one hell of a display. Please consider it.

Yes, to be considered for Star/Bowtie Judging at a National Convention you need a "sign-off" at a regional. Current rules are you need to sign the car up for Flight Judging, but if you don't want the car scored the judges will just fill out the originality part and you do not get the score sheets back. That seems like a waste to me. Just get the car Flight Judged.

Be careful cleaning the LT1. You don't want to remove any of those marks we love so much, so start with the mildest cleaning agent first. Dish washing soap and water works well for a starter. Look it over carefully to be sure you are not about to lose any labels before you start.

That might give Kevin the incentive to figure out how to get 2/3 of that group together.
