        Hey Roy:

Don't feel bad...I have a '68, have no interest in the 50's and still read every one of your posts. They are informative and amuse me. Very cool. Keep 'em coming, especially the weird after-market stuff you're into.

I also need to know how hot it is under my bubble top and the original clock sucks so I have a 30's sportsman car clock which I can slide off the dash and keep in my pocket

Roy, thanks for educating us on the early Corvettes and showing us items we would not see elsewhere. I really like your '55, especially the way you have accessorized it.

As far as the older Corvettes, we can't forget our heritage! The '55 265 kept it going.

Roy, any idea what kind of tool was used to create the flare on the back side of the cup on the door panels? I just used a punch to insert mine, but did not flare them to secure them to the back of the panel. No big deal, but I found it interesting they were flared on originals. Thanks!

Back in the prehistoric days a brake job was to replace the brake pads by a tool foot operated to remove and crimp the rivets , the same type of tool was used to crimp the cups , the cups that you can now buy repro are to be crimped but no one does it they just push them in. You would need that standing foot tool to do them correct. Any way it's not judged so it don't matter unless you remove a door or kick panel and some fall out and you lose one!

                          Roy,
                          Thanks for the posts.
Ya got me wondering if my door panels have any cups in them.
After we dissected the body from the frame this summer, the first
parts surgically removed were the door panels and trim parts. I never paid
any attention what all was there except the screws. Threw them in my storage trailer until I was ready to do the upholstery (year 3099)
If they're crimped, I would think they would still be there. But, any thing can happen in 54 years.
Thanks again for all the info, imput, photos and all! They're a great help and great visual aids.

By the way, a question was asked about whether you cleaned the debris
off your garage roof, which you chose to ignore
Some of us are waiting for your reply. Maybe you are???
                          Karl.

OK guys the wind did it at 40mph nice and clean now!!
If the original cups are there you cant remove them and reuse them again on the new stuff because they are crimped ,but you can pull them out and grind the crimp off . The cups are to keep you from dimpling in the material as you tighten the screws .( I often see flat bezels ??) used .

                              Roy,

Years aho I got those crimped "cups" into a new pair of kick panels. I did it using this technique: slip a tight fitting drill bit into the hole of the cup and "screw" the cup into the predrilled hole you have using your power drill with the bit attached and the cup over the bit into your panel. When I did this it went right in with no problem. If my memory is correct I think I had to angle the cup to get it started into the hole.

One might take the old panel he/she has removed and practice on it before screwing the cup into a new panel - just an idea.

I did this in a pair of original kick panels, never tried it on door panels but the concept should work the same.

Let me know when you are out my way.

                              Regards,

                              Jim Blakely
