    Re: 65 electrical problem

    Andy,

The bulkhead connectors are located on the firewall just beneath the master cylinder. There are two, one for the front of the car (lights, signals, horn etc) and the 'main' connector for the rest of the stuff under the hood.

They can be taken apart and cleaned, don't forget to add some contact grease to each connection before re-assembly.

    Good Luck.

Look under the brake master cyl. Should be two connectors. The inboard (closest to the car's center) is the engine operation connector, the outboard is for the lighting and horns and signals.
Just because the battery cables look OK (don't ask me on how I know this )
I would still take them apart, clean them, add some dielectric grease and reconnect. As others have said , I would do the same with bulk head connectors being very careful doing the disassembly cleaning, greasing and reassembly. Those connectors will be quite brittle from age and heat. I use an old fashioned ink eraser with the attached little plastic brush on it to clean the elctrical contacts, its not as aggressive as a file or a dremel tool.

Get yourself a good wiring diagram. These cars aren't rocket science.

Thanks to all.........looks like the bulkhead connectors did the trick. I took them off and opened the connectors a bit. The top connection didnt look as if it was out all the way....I opened up the connecting tab to make sure both touch. No problems since I did this!!!!

          Andy,

Are you running a battery disconnect? Could be slight pitting on the contacts of the green knob disconnect but I would likely suspect the bulkhead connector like others. The main power feed into the car is the #12 red wire in the bulkhead harness bundle.

I ended up running a parallel #12 red wire from the horn relay to the headlight circuit breaker. Found this solution in the archives.
