I would love to come see you and the car when it gets done.
I have decided to use Carl to do my block but first I am going to pull the motor and check it over so I know what I will be dealing with for the rebuild. It comes out this week hopefully.
Your trip sounds great and especially the book. I'll take a copy for sure. I love to hear stories of people and their love affairs with their cars. I hang out at Classic Convertibles in Freeport and get to talk with lots of the customers and everyone of them has a story about their early cars. I could write a book about that too! Have fun on your trip.
We got a nice Corvette in today at Classic. Monza Red '69 427/390hp 4 speed car. 90k miles with T-Tops. Pretty nice shape. I'll attach a picture.
Let me know when yours is painted and I'll come see it.

The car was originally Milano Maroon , I changed the car in 1971 to a British racing green and put a soft canvass top on it. This will be the third paint job of green. I was tempted to go back to the original color, but I would only be doing that to play the numbers game. So, green it will be, because it's my car and I like green.

I will let you know and post picture as soon as it done

PS I know you will be happy with Carl's work.

Thanks for the compliment. I just hope none of you out there give me grief about this not being right or that doesn't go there, on my car.

You do what you have to to keep an original engine and drive train going for over 43 years and 250,000 miles. Of course if it really bothers some one and they would be just love to use their skills and tools to make it right, who am I to stop them.

          Jack -
I have a 57 Vette I bought in 59. So I have owned the car for fifty years. I paid 1500 for the car. I couldn't afford a new one which as I recall was about 3600 then. I just started a body off restoration. The body is off and almost stripped. It has been my plan to restore the Vette when I retire. I am now retired so I can spend most of my time on the car. I hope to have it ready to paint by summer. My wife and I live in Grants Pass Oregon.

You will be on my list when I get to the Northwest. I feel like a pioneer, I have to get across the Rockies before the first snow. Lots of great people and adventures ahead.

I putting pins on my US map. So I can plan my route

I 'll be there. Can't wait . Lots of cars in your neck of the woods. I am sure it will be a faster car by the time I leave the South East.

Steve Brohard in Texas has had his '57 a few years longer than I. He used to be a local guy here too when we were much younger.

If all go according to plan, I should be in Mid to North to northwest Penn. in the first part of August (5 to 6th ). I hope to start stopping, about mid NY and go west jumping back and forth between NY and Penn on the way to Ohio.

                              Re: Ready for Paint

Hello Jack. On behalf of the Michigan Chapter NCRS, we'd like to invite you to an organized/group visit during your 2010 trek across the country if your timing allows. We have quite an active group, including many members with a solid collection of significant cars. We'd love to host you for an afternoon and include you and your car in one of our regular technical seminars.

I have spoken (email) with our Chapter Judging Chairman, and suggested that we see if you might be able to visit with us all as a group on your way through Michigan. My suggestion was supported, so here's the invite!

Our proposal would be to plan a gathering of cars and owners where you can present your car and tell us about the restoration project and your trip around the country with the finshed product.

Each year, we participate in a couple nice summer outings. On July 25th, we'll likely gather at the Meadowbrook Concours d'elegance in Rochester Hills, MI. It's a great event. I've included a link for you to check it out.

Also, depending on your timing, availability and interest, we'd like to include you in our annual participation in the famous Woodward Dream Cruise. Link: http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/ The cruise this year will be held on Saturday, August 21st, however, there's plenty of action for the whole week leading up to the actual day of the cruise. Cars come from all over the country and beyond to play.

Of course if neither of these dates fit your timing, we'd find a date where we could meet in a less formal setting, but share all the experiences just the same.

Think about it please. We are hopeful that you can join us and share some of the tales and experiences we all love about these cars. We'd love to see you!
