    63 Rocker Panel brackets

Does anyone have info for approximate vin when the small rocker panel bracket was riveted to the inside of the lower front fender extension.

I have an early car 1022 without it and no holes ever drilled, a late car 21,000 with the brakets riveted in, and a friend with a 9,000 serial number car with the brackets who lost points at judging for having them.

Do we think the installation of the bracket is somehow tied into the change from 2 exterior screws at each end of the rocker panel to 1 screw at each end?

    Thanks, Joe

    Hey Joe !

I don't have the AIM with me today. If you have one, does it show this item with any revisions or notes ??

The AIM does not show a bracket and only one screw at the front with a spring nut on the back of the screw.

Joe, if I understand what you are looking for, I just looked at my 63, 13,3XX. There is no bracket. I have one screw forward that goes through the rocker, then through the glass. I'll brush the dirt off later today to see if there is a clip, speed nut or something else to secure the screw.

Now I get it. The bracket is shown on AIM Section 1 Sheet A19.00 Item 12. It was added on the AIM on 9/27/62. My 13,000 car (April build) has the them.

Ken, thanks for clarifying as where to look. I have the remains of two rivets and no brackets. So 13,3XX had them but living in the rust-belt removed them.

Correct! The AIM does show a bracket.

However, I do have a car (very early vin) with original nose and no brackets.

So now we have 2 cars at 13000 with evidence of the brackets.

So do we have any 9000 serial number or earlier cars with brackets??

              That would really help me.

              Thanks for the responses.

              Joe

I wish I could help with my early November built car but they have been replaced.

I do have lower fender pieces from original fenders (swap meet parts) with the brackets and they are pop riveted. Is this how they were attached from the factory..

Yes, AIM shows a rivet in this position. Part #3828470

Tom, Do you know if that rivet part # is a pop rivet. Other rivets on that page are not.

OK! Now we are getting some info.

1022 No brackets or holes & 2 screws at end of rocker panel
2833 No brackets or holes & 2 screws at end of rocker panel
                            83XX Has brackets riveted
                            13,XXX Has brackets riveted
13,3XX Has evidence of brackets riveted
                            17,XXX Has brackets riveted.

Do we have any owners with cars between 2833 and 83XX that can comment?

Most all the brackets I have seen are installed with 3/16 in. pop rivets

Tim, I just pulled the remains of the rivets. They are pop-rivets. Two per side. The diameter of the head is about .33 so it's probably a 3/16 pop.
