    17.1 Mpg

Does that sound normal. I have a healthy 350 cube motor, edelbrock performer and a matching 600 cfm Carby with 3.70 rear in a 1960 Vette. I just calculated around town no highway driving 17.1 mpg. I guess on a trip I should see over 20 mpg. I drive it fairly hard so I was shocked to see it up that high around town. Does anyone get that type of economy (if you call it economy) in there carby vette. It's hardly a Toyota Hybrid ! Stewy

Is that imperial gallons or US? Either way that's not bad for around town.

Stewy, I really don't think my "60 averages that high. My last estimation was 13 mpg but I'll try to take another calculation this weekend as I am planning on taking her out for a long drive if the weather holds.

I used U.S. gallon to convert it. Next big run I will try highway milage. I'm betting I will get over 20 but the gearing might kill it. Stewy

I could better gauge my mileage even with a fuel gauge that does not work (like my does not) except that I use avgas and pump it in at home and can not tell how much fuel I am adding. I do not think I will take my car out this weekend as I have been having problems with the defrost mechanism on the windshield.

Stewy, I am concerned with the ethanol in the gas at the pumps and what it may do to my car in the long run. It is a personal choice I've made and many others will disagree with my decision to use jet fuel. It is OK to disagree. I take no offense.

Valeria I'm not disagreeing with you in using race style fuel. I was wanting to know why you use it. There is a science behind mechanical engineering and you could be wasting time, coin and safety by using the racing fuels or you could be using the correct product as well. I was just curious as to the reason you were using that style of fuel. Just don't use water apparently that doesn't compress and ignite into flames. Stewy

That's a pretty good number Stewy. That 3.70 may actually be helping you around town but I'd be very surprised if you top 20 at 65 mph.

I'd be very happy with that in town number though.

I don't get to 65 mph on the highway I generally sit on 55 mph. The 3.70 gets to me after a while on the highways. I have noticed it feels better at higher speeds without the hardtop on. The noise in the cabin when the hardtop is on seems to get louder as I increase with speed and a shouting match to the passenger starts to begin. I still think I will crack 20 mpg ? Stewy

Stewy, I use avgas which is 100 octane and contains no ethanol. There is a reason airplanes do not use fuel with ethanol. Avgas is far more pure and will not damage or junk up these old engines which were not designed for ethanol. Again, many will disagree and say it is ok to use ethanol but I prefer not to take the chance. I have access to avgas and it is only $2/gallon more than ethanol.

We can't! Had to have already had one before the Olympics...hidden away in a garage in the next county.

Tire frying and bumper to bumper 3pm to 7pm. The saying "hotter than Georgia asphalt" was right on.
