Wow! Michigan real estate is cheap! Still not cheap enough to make me want to move there.

      Ray,

F106, B58, & B52. Not quite today's aircraft, but the F106 held, and may still hold, the single engine speed record. Most aircraft now days are at least two engines. It sucks if your one and only engine fails. You can't get out and walk.

Contrary to popular belief I didn't know the Wright bros, but one of the fighter jocks flew a Stearman for recreation back then.

              Hi,
I just noticed that there's no computer on the desk in the picture of Zora's office! So I guess really was the the brain, not a chip!
              Regards,

Very true, John. The city of Detroit is demolishing the ever-growing supply of foreclosed homes.

DETROIT March 2010 - Detroit, the very symbol of American industrial might for most of the 20th century, is drawing up a radical renewal plan that calls for turning large swaths of this now-blighted, rusted-out city back into the fields and farmland that existed before the automobile.
Operating on a scale never before attempted in this country, the city would demolish houses in some of the most desolate sections of Detroit and move residents into stronger neighborhoods. Roughly a quarter of the 139-square-mile city could go from urban to semi-rural.

The houses that Detroit is tearing down are abandonded, not just foreclosed on. The neighborhood that Zora's house is in is one of the wealthiest in the country. There are a couple of billionaire's living in that community.

Re: Duntov's house is for sale

Living "real close by" there are a couple things to be said, first yes, the Pointes have seen a huge hit in real estate value.

Zora's house has now been for sale for a year. On this street there are more that 6 houses that have not sold (in a year) and I am sure another six that want to put a sign up when some of those for sale do go.

Yes the house needs freshening inside and out. It has not had any paint in a very long time. Before I knew he lived there, I was always intrigued by the circular staircase, but the big drawbacks are this, from the back door there is 5' (or less) to the back lot line and to the side lot line - and - being a corner house on a cross street there is no where to expand, not land, not the house to add a second bath, etc. etc., nor the garage. And that corner gets all the traffic N-S and E-W.

I really doubt prospective buyers these days take the history into account...

                        This may sound crazy but...............

The NCM should consider buying the property and work a deal with one of the large structure moving companies and bring it to the museum in Kentucky, put a slab out near the parking lot entrance, and rest the house on it. This would be a massive undertaking.....but have you ever watched "Mega Moves" on TV? This.........Piece-o-cake!

The souls of Zora and Elfie would be home there.

With all of the money they make on C6 raffles, the NCM could use some of the proceeds to help pay for the costs. They could also start a fundraiser to help offset costs, and could even cut up pieces of the original foundation, and sell them as special commemorative mementos of the house, again to raise money for the project.

I would gladly contribute to preserve a piece of Corvette history.

Yes, and when the house was gone, they could likely sell the bare lot and recoup a good amount of the purchase price. Someone might be more interested in building a new house on the lot than anyone would be interested in buying the existing house and fixing it up.

How long did Zora & Elfie live in this house? I'm guessing quite a long time, but I'm curious if anyone knows more definitively.

Up to the end, the city records should have that detail, but those are usualyy only available if you have a signed purchase agreement, perhaps on line, but not on the tax assessment site as they only list the current owner.

Fantastic idea on moving the house.

Way better served for all really and yes the land value would be most for the two neighbors. When I said 5 feet off the back or side door I meant it. Those photos would never appear in a real-e listing.

                                Dear NCM Board Members,

I have a idea for you to consider at your next board meeting. This is an excerpt from a discussion we had at the NCRS Technical Discussion Board regarding the Duntov Property that is for sale for over a year now. Please consider my idea. The NCRS thread is located here. If you do not have access please sign in as a guest to read it.
