Michael, Thanks for the history of racks, courtesy of Ernie at Willcox Corvette. Great article to save.

      Joe -

The deduction is for the presence of the holes, assuming the rack is installed, since no rack was ever installed on a '73 at the factory. If the rack isn't there and the holes have been repaired properly, there is no deduction.

If the rack is installed and isn't the same as the originally dealer-installed GM accessory rack, it doesn't matter; there's no deduction for the rack itself, regardless of its configuration. The deduction is for the holes in the fiberglass required to install it.

Can anybody tell who "M.A." refers to, Willcox were selling the kits to "by the pallets in the 80's"? My assumption would be Mid America...

          Re: 73 luggage rack

          Hi Joe,
I put a luggage rack on my 71 in 1971, and removed it when I restored the car 1995-2005. The fellow who helpd me with the body work felt that the best chance of not seeing signs of the holes later on was to do the repair with a large taper into the glass on each side and to not use ANY filler.
          So far, so good.
          Good Luck!
          Regards,
          Alan

If you make the hole repair as Allen said and can let it cure a few months before paint I have had good results. I like to set the body out in the sun to cure.

              Alan------

You got good advice. In my opinion also, that is the only way to do it. Using filler creates the problems. However, I'm glad that I never had to do this. I never installed a luggage rack on my car. I always HATED luggage racks, regardless of their practicality.
