    VIIIOHT assembly date

These are the symbols that appear on my engine pad for an assembly date. In looking at the 67 judging manual, these do not appear to be correct or am I just not interpreting them correctly? The "V" and "HT" are correct but what about the middle symbols. Also, I checked the casting number and it is correct but casting date appears to be incorrect for the car build date. The build date for the car is 11/18/1966 but the casting date appears to be "K96" which if I am reading the manual correctly is 11/9/1966, only 9 days before assembly. The other item I notice is the carb. There is a part number stamped into the horn of the carb which appears correct as does the "list" number which is directly below the part number. However, below the "list" number there "3255" which does not correspond with what the judging manual says, there is no 3 character code. Sorry to be so wordy but if anyone could help I would appreciate it, since everyone has been helpful in the past. Thanks, Dennis

No problems with the casting or stamping dates on the block relative to each other or assembly date of the car. My call would be that what you have is the original. The carb, on the other hand, would be a correct one, but a replacement one--in other words, correct style carb, later date, because it's not the original to the car.

VIII0HT is Flint engine, assembled November 10th, suffix code HT. Chevrolet used the character 'I" in place of the digit "1".

      Does that help?

        Dennis -

Holley changed their date code format after 1972 from the 3-digit year/month/week to a 4-digit Julian format, where the first three digits are the day of the year and the 4th digit is the year. "3255" is the 325th day of 1975 (or 85), so the carburetor is a Service replacement.
