Re: Through what media did you buy your vette?

some less than 20 years ago
went to a bob gold auction (BG)
got bidder number so could sit up front
    no intention to buy
    1969 BB came up cheap
wound up buying and surpising wife (not one word fro her)
20 or so years before that::: still going to college brought home 58 FI car was going to trade for - she said no - i said yes - she said i am leaving - i said not buying car
10 years or so i had the above 1969 BB and a 1987 convertible and told her trading both plus $$$ for a 1963 FI - she said ok
on way home she shed a tear and wanted another corvette so got her a 1996 CE
so today got 3 & lookintg for a 1966 BB and never a word from her
which all is not what the issue is about i.e. on what media did i use
but i like to tell the story !!!!!!!!

I saw an ad in the Chicago Tribune in June 1985. I've had this one ever since.

Re: Through what media did you buy your vette?

Just graduated from college in 1980 and really wanted a foreign sports car. I had my eye on an MG or a Jaguar XKE roadster. My father worked for a GM dealership in Reading, PA as parts manager and was appalled that I was not buying American made.
I started looking in the local paper for an old corvette and several days later I answered an ad in the paper for a "60 vette.
Unbelievable but my father was against the purchase. His negativity about the purchase of the car enticed me into buying it.

We've been together for 30 years!!

I bought my '65 Coupe from ProTeam in Ohio after seeing the car online.

I bought my 2010 Grand Sport from a local dealer.

Bought my 73 last July in Michigan, my son lives up there and when we visit he always takes me to Holt Auto Sales and my wife and I fell in love with this one and bought and had it delivered to us in Tennessee. We are having fun with the car, something we have dreamed of having over the past 40 years . 40 years ago I had a 1961 Vette and had to sell.

Bought my first '57 in 1967 for $400 locally via a college newspaper want-ad in Boulder, CO. Drove and occasionally abused it it for next 2 1/2 of years. Upon graduating from college in '69 traded it in for a '69 SS396 Chevelle.

Purchased current '57 in '07 on Ebay. Luckily, car was only 65 miles from home so was able to personally inspect before buying.

Bought a 58 in 1962 from a dealer on the Post Rd. in Norwalk, CT. Sold it a year later.
Fast forward to 1992, bought my Almond Beige 62 from Mershons.
Since then I have bought 12 more Corvettes (and sold 10) from Ebay (bought 6), Auto Trader magazine, local newspaper ads, and a few by word of mouth.
The same rule applies to all purchases; do your homework and inspect the car throughly.

Bought my '62 from a local ad my boss found in the Detroit Free Press in 1995. Sold it in 2003 on Ebay. Bought my 1982 Collector Edition from a friend of my Uncle in Raymore, MO. It had 8500 miles and one owner at the time. He had attempted to sell it in estate auctions for 2 years. Then I found out about it and gobbled it up. All original except the battery, oil filter, and air filters. Immediate Top Flight in Kissimmee in 2002. Now the car is in Denmark! It's up to 16K now. I'm convinced word of mouth is the best. Keep networking and talking to local Chapter members. They know a lot!

Bought the 56 in 73. A friend, who had a 57, and I had bugged him for a few years to sell it to me, told me about a guy that his wife worked with who had a 56 to be advertised that weekend. I got his name and number, called, went and looked at it and got raped on the price. But I wanted that body style so bad (56-57) that I paid the exhorbatant price of $3000! Wish I could find 2-3 more for that price!

Purchased my car from a private seller, found through internet ad on Corvette Trader. It was the only car I looked at and didn't realize what I was getting at the time...4 speed, Big Block Coupe, leather, air. Sometimes the sun, moon, and stars align...and with the DOW down 3,000 points from it's '01 high...not a bad price too.

Bought my '59 through a Ft. Wayne newspaper ad in Aug of '69. Still have it.

Traded an almost new '72 Vega that was in the process of expiring it's second engine on my '65 convertible at a Ft. Wayne used car lot.

Found the '67 427 coupe on a Ft. Wayne used car lot in Sept of 1979.

My wife ordered her '81 from the Chevy dealer where she worked and took delivery in Oct. of '80. Still have it also.

Bought my C2 through and internet advert, I had 2 friends inspect it at the owner in Belgium. Sealed the deal on the phone.

My C5 I found on corvetteforum.com had difficulty to convince the californian owner that the guy from overseas (me) could be trusted , got the help from Rocky Mountain chapter buddy Jack H. who called the owner. Deal was sealed and the car was shipped to The Netherlands.

Purchased a 1965 327/350 coupe in a "drive-by" 25 years ago at Lussiers in Manchester, NH. I now know it isnt a 350 and am slighty afraid to find out what else I don't know.
