Re: Through what media did you buy your vette?

I bought a 2000 coupe from Roger's Corvette in Orlando, FL in 2001. Drove it for a few years.

Then, my dad realized he wanted a vette he could drive and not worry about, and I realized I wanted one I could work on. So we swapped. He took my 2000 and I took his 67.

He and I restored the 67 together and he was there at our local chapter meet when it took a 97.2% Top Flight. The car is now being prepped for flight judging at the Iowa Regionals. After that, she'll head to McDorman Chev in Ohio for PV, and then (God willing) on to Nationals in Novi in 2011.

    Here's the kicker.

BOTH CARS HAVE THE SAME SEQUENCE NUMBER ON THE VIN, BOTH ARE CAR # 183 !!!!!!!! What are the odds on that?

Re: Through what media did you buy your vette?

In 1974 when I was 18 I bought a 1960 for $1,800 (dad freeked) from the neighbor next door to the Texaco station where I worked. I finished up a few things on it, drove it to college, and sold it in 1976 for $3,200. Dad freeked again and said "I never make any money on cars I've owned.

In 2006 I bought our 1957 fuelie after spotting it in the C1 Registry for sale by a private party. Great transaction. A couple weeks ago I took it to the annual Brea Baptist Church car show and won the "Lady's Choice." award.

In 2006 I also bought a Pennant Blue original 1954 off eBay from a dealer in Florida. I learned a lesson the hard way on that one.

5+ years ago I placed an ad in the Driveline - looking to buy a '62. Six weeks later the owner called to tell me about what he had. I had the car inspected by a '61-'62 judge, and then went ahead with the transaction.

Still have it - don't regret it.

Bought my first Corvette, a 1961 in 1962. I purchased it from my father's dealership for what they had put in it, $1,800. Previous owner had taken it away from his son and traded it in for a new chicken truck. Bought my next '61 from a friend in Texas, no motor, no title, etc (that is another whole story), the '74 coupe came from a local "pinhooker", L/88 I had followed ownership since it came to my parents neighborhood in 1970. Just took me twelve years to buy it. The '62 365 A/C coupe came from Texas, I was there working and picked up a local trade paper and saw the ad. Kermit, the infamous '72 came from a real good friend and Corvette dealer.

Reba had several Corvettes before we got married. Their first, a '67 435 coupe was bought in '68, the '72 bb coupe was bought about '75 or so. She traded it for a new Trans Am. That car was totaled just a few weeks after she traded it.

I tried to match the VIN on my 1970 and the 2008. That didn't work either, so I took what I could get for both interior color and VIN. I suppose that is one of the reasons Chevrolet won't do what we want -- we dummies buy the car anyway.

I guess I should have said that I did NOT know the VIN on the 67 when I bought the 2000.......what are the odds that BOTH my dad and I would buy a red Corvette, 28 years apart, and they'd have the same VIN sequence....

Go buy several lottery tickets, or to look at it another way: Don't stand under any trees.

I do know several people who were able to match the sequence number of their new Corvette to their old Corvette, but to do it by accident is a whole other story.

I bought my 65 in 75 from a newspaper ad about 15 miles from home, a girl owned it, the engine block cracked from no anti freeze while in her garage over the winter. I still have it. The 71 Coupe I bought from my brother 3 years ago. He owned it for 25+ years he was the 3rd owner it needs work but its all there.

My first '62 that I bought in '72, I got took for $1800. I learned a lesson on frames at that time and before you know it, learned how to do a frame up restoration. The next '62 I bought in '86, was by telling every Corvette owner I could find that I was looking for a '62.

Just by chance I was in a body shop and seen a '65 coupe. I asked is it for sale? The body shop guy said no but I'll call the owner. Long story short, I got the car.

My brother and I were both looking for c3s a couple years ago using everything we could find online. Found my brothers 72 via an internet ad but I forget which site. It was 150 miles away in Austin. We met a fellow who had experience judging who went over the car with us and told him we were looking for another one too. He gave me the number of a shop that restored corvettes that had one for sale. It was out of my price league but they had restored one for another guy some years back and that he was thinking about selling it. I contacted him and after loading the 72 on the trailer, drove another 70 miles or so out into the Texas hill country and bought my 69. Had to return the next weekend for it. So one internet and one word of mouth.

Private parties, Newspapers, Dealerships (new) Flea bay, all work to some extent.

I purchased my 1967 from a private party that was referred by a couple of my NCRS friends.
