Most have it right, locks and alrms are "honest" people. The others know how to get in. It's their "job", that's what they do for a living!

Interesting? I don't have windows, but if they did manage to fish that little latch, the alarm monitoring company would be phoning me within seconds of the door opening and their face would have been on TV for however long they spent fishing for it. But before they could fish, they'd have to break in through the gate or climb over the fence. And after they get in, they'd have to have some heavy equipment to take the tool cabinet whole or spend even more time breaking into that. And the keys to cars are inside a safe in another building so they'd have to hotwire them. Needless to say I'm a bit paranoid. Now I'm going out to the garage to have a look at that little latch and secure it too. My Corvette can never be too secure.

It is amazing how much damage you can do with the halligan tool shown in the photos. Open locked doors, knock window out, raise garage doors,

That's what a big dog and a great alarm are for!

I don't have windows in my garage door and my DD is parked and locked in front of the door. So the thieves are gonna have to move that first, and the the 2003 is inside and locked, so their gonna have work fast as I will be enroute with the remington 12 gauge in short order.

A lot of people live in condos that have remote garages that can only be accessed via a garage door opener (electric). They have no side door and are not attached to a house. My Dad used to add a keylock access connected to the trip by a wire for people in this situation.

I have floor mounted sensors to connect my doors to the house alarm system, as well as verticle strong bar arrangements for hurricanes. I also still have the regular manual latches still workable so that if/when we go away for a few days, I employ all my security measures. The only thing that might remove my doors, under these circumstances, would be a tow truck!

Looks to me like all you have to do is nail a block of wood or bolt a piece of angle iron that the door would still clear where he run the wire through. That would deflect the wire down so he could not hook the lever.

the key word is delay, and yes if the thief wants he will get in
but time is his biggest enemy.

a buddy of me experianced it last year when they break into his garage
and tried to steel his C5

just abouth a few months before I made him some big slide locks on his overhead door on both side's , this prevented the thiefs from getting thier targed

this is what happened firts the tried to force the overhead door with a hydraulic Jack (this would normaly break the standard locks and open the door easily) after they found out it didnt, they start with the walk in door with brute force with a positive result

but when they came in they found out they could'nt open the overhead door and quit there mission

here some pic of the crime scene

I've watched that before. It's a VERY old style door. Most newer styles will not allow a wire to be put through.
BUT... if they really want in, there's always the sledge hammer on the wall.
Remember the days when we would not be talking about this? Miss em badly. Bill.

                              Pat;

Your door opener is a chain driven type. Most all available newer doors use the jack screw type drive system. That explains why your release is different than those described by others with the lever. Last I checked, I was told H.D. And Lowes were no longer selling/installing the chain drives.

The vertical hurricane bar is currently on sale at Lowes for $158.00. It is called a Door Brace. Their's does not look as substantial as mine, but has possibilities. The principle is the same. I was looking for something to keep the metal door from bulging in and whistling in 120 mph winds. This takes care of that as well as provides additional security, specially for long term storage and trips out of town, i.e. when you aren't home with your shotgun on your lap.
