    Bloomington Gold 2010

I had a great 2 days at BG and the weather on Thursday and Friday was very nice. Wednesday was horrible with storms and lots of rain.
Good swap meet although most prices were stupid, but there were a few bargains.

The new "Great Hall" exhibit was excellent with 10 cars and 10 people honored. The cars were exceptional and the 10 people honored were from all walks of Corvette life. Very nice choice of contributors to the Corvette hobby.

Robin & I just got back in from St. Charles (about 40 min. from our house). Great show again this year, especially the "Great Hall". Nice day all around, we had storms last night but today was just a beautiful day for a ride in a convertible corvette. Hey Dave did you find the NCRS booth, I missed it?

        Martin,
I don't believe the NCRS National had a booth there.
There were some chapters selling parts but no other NCRS.

As I said in my first post the Great Hall was actually great.

Had an opportunity to talk with Noland, Jim Gessner and Al Knoch who were all honored along with 7 other notables.

The first airbox car (#4007) was there with it's owners Joel Lauman and Bill Connell.

The #7 Sebring Racer owned by John & Sally Neas was also there and I had a nice discussion with John about the Bennie Osborn AA Fuel Dragster record holder he displayed and had running at the recent Hot Rod Reunion at Bowling Greens Beech Bend raceway.

The Penske 66 race car of Kevin McKays was there along with the 63 Gulf Oil #1 race car. A number of other very special Corvettes were also on display.

        I will now stop rambling..

Did any of you take pictures? Would love to see some of them.

p.s. Too bad about the rain, but glad nothing serious. Made me think of the Winter Regional here in Kissimmee this past January......about 7 inches of rain and high winds through the night before the event!

            Hello;

NCRS booth is next to the IL NCRS Chapter booths.

I agree the show was great as always and the way the cars were displayed in the Great Hall was fantastic. As always the best part though is of course seeing old friends and new ones too

Probably not, as it appears all Corvette people are old and retired. Those that aren't, are laid off. I fit the 1st grp. But, I wasn't there either.

Here's a couple of links to some pics for BG 2010 that I posted on another forum. I have to admit, I enjoyed the Great Hall. A different persepctive. It was neat to learn some of the history behind the names.

                        Re: Bloomington Gold 2010

Just back from this event where we've been nearly every year since the mid 1970s. They did not have the road tour this year and that's unfortunate. Otherwise, a nice event. Many of us traditionalists wish it would return to Bloomington/Normal where it originated. Regarding the NCRS booth, we never did find it, but did ask a BG staffer. He checked and said they registered but no one showed up.

It will be interesting to see how BG progresses in future years. Today's activity is to include a showing of all sorts of collectibles (imports, Ford, other GM, etc.). Makes one wonder if their business model is to extend the certification process in future years to models other than the Corvette. Thoughts?

Unfortunantly, I fit into that second "laid off" catagory.

We went last year, drove the 08 up. We really enjoyed it. Didn't go this year because of illness, but I hope we can do it next year. Tom

Fellow member John Scopelite sent me some pictures he took of some 55's and asked me to post them here for him.

p.s. The red 55 in front of the house is John's. Nice car John!
