What are you guys using for anti theft devices?

What are some of you guys using for security devices on your Corvettes?

I know that locked in the garage is probably the best but we can't always do that. These cars(especially the older ones) are so easy to steal compared to modern cars that I'm more than a little concerned about theft especialy when I have to leave it in a parking lot or worse, on the street over night.

There will be suggestions on everthing from security cameras,to Smith & Wesson. Poisonous snakes etc..
The best advice I could offer is a good stated value insurance poilcy.

If a thief has you on his radar? Whether in your garage or out on the street. He is probably going to get it. In big cities no one pays attention to alarms. Even if it's on a flatbed wrecker while it's going off.
One good suggestion was to stash a cheap GPS cell phone in the car. Guess you would have to rig it with a charger. Unless you want to charge it every other day.

      GREG-
Be in control of your car's future and your own peace of mind! NEVER leave that vintage Corvette (or any vintage car) on the street overnight, unless you are sleeping in it! Never done that, never will.

when i have to park my corvette in any public place i take my gun out of the holster,i have a permit to carry, and leave the holster laying on top of the dash in plain sight so the would be perp knows the owners is armed and could be close by.

There is no way in he!! I would be able to sleep if I did that. With all the reports of trailers being stolen, I wouldn't be secure with having it locked in a trailer either. My solution at home is an alarmed garage and a large caliber handgun. I would never leave it unattended overnight.

I leave my wife in the passenger seat and make sure she's hungry. Nobody in their right mind is gonna mess with the car. She is mean and nasty but, it is hard for even me to get in the car, so, I carry a tranquilizer gun. In the end, if you have a thief with a tranquilizer gun, you may want to consider another option.

i had a friend who back in the 50s had a chrysler allard when he went to pitt. he left his german shepard in the car and would come out and feed and water and walk the dog a couple of times a day. no one ever messed with the allard.

I prefer a Claymore mine, but it can be a bit messy if you don't have it aimed just right.

Locking the garage is great along with ADT, providing you have them install sensors on the garage doors. Most people don't use these or know about them. Mine are metal pads mounted to the concrete and use coax armor cable up to the sending unit. Then, a metal tab is mounted to the garage door for the floor sensor to make proximity contact with. One word of caution regarding the little sending units in that if you some how knock the small plastic cover off (as I did), the circuit will be broken (open) and the system will not set. It has a little spring loaded ball in it that must be engaged to the base.

Don't they have an APP for that?

Really, an alarm received by your cell phone which could be directed to 911 along with the audible alarm. It would be nice while traveling or sleeping out on the road! Love to have something like this on my rig (truck,& trailer)!

I looked into the LoJack system a while back. It is a GPS transmitter that you hide in your vehicle. You can track your vehicle's whereabouts on the web. I will look into it again once I get my car back on the road.

the quickest way to get your stolen corvette back is go to the police station and offer a $2K reward to any cop that finds it. all the cops will be out looking for it.

                              Also try this http://www.dewaltmobilelock.com/main.asp
Most of these GPS devices add a monthly monitoring fee ($ ??) however you can use them on different assets if not bolted in.
As for the LoJack it does not charge you a monthly charge and an extra $100 will get you 10 year coverage however LoJack must be installed by their people. Don't know about you, but nobody works inside my car especially a non corvette person.
