No one likes to be violated. It's not the American way, and it is natural to do what we can to protect our stuff. You can say it is only money, or just a car, not worth your life, etc., but if you don't do what you can to prevent or deter a crime, you are not doing the perp any favor by making it easy. They will just try something bigger and more dangerous if they succeed.

I've put too much time and effort into restoring my old Corvettes to let them out of my sight. I am either in them or they are in a locked garage.

Back in the early seventies, when I drove my 65 for transportation, I did have the distinct pleasure of catching an individual in the act of stealing my car. He received the appropriate punishment

Here in the High Lonesome. We've found our Great Pyrnees White Dog makes a lota noise if anything shows up. Coyotes, Bears or Predators human or likewise. Our pre-64 Winchester and 44/40 might help as well. Or run em down w/ the 76 4x4

A good agreed value policy, a locked garage, and it's NEVER out of my sight when it's not in the garage.

years ago i caught some guy under my 41 ford trying to steal my dual exhaust. i was at the dirt track races and had to go back to my car for something and i saw this pair of legs sticking out from under the car. a swift kick between his legs brought him out from under the car. i found he was unbolting my dual exhaust system. i did keep the wrenches he left as he limped off.

I have a Doberman who loves my "little red Corvette". Unfortunately she likes to jump on the exterior of my pride! This does not go over well with me.
My 26 Glock always serves me right! I will not be a victum.

All it takes is a computer and your favorite search engine--any fool with internet access can figure out how to hotwire a car.

Not much of a "professional car thief", required, especially in border states like TX, NM, and CA where stolen cars are driven across the border never to be seen again.

If you ever have an opportunity to talk with a police detective who works auto theft, run by him or her the theory about professional car thieves not packing heat.
