592 from 1/1/13 to 5/2/13 (European way - day first, month second. ). So how many from 1/1/13 to 31/1/13?

I don't know yet, the year 2013 is not over .

If you mean 2012, the count is: 1,521 (with a comma as thousand separator (US style )

Re: "For sale" section thread missing

Time for me to weigh in.
A couple of questions for those who want online ads.
What do people envision about NCRS online ads that would be better than Ebay or the Corvette forum ads?
Some people have suggested that the ads should be limited to NCRS members only. How could that be done, and why should they be limited to NCRS members?
If the problem is items are sold before people receive the magazine, maybe there should be an NCRS auction site so everybody has time to take a look and bid on items for sale. I vote for an auction site. If two people want an item, the one willing to pay the most should get it, not the first person to see the ad.

The limited access auction concept is being investigated privately. Not enough volume to be profitable, but done as a service to members and friends. Logistics are a nightmare but Stay tuned

Is it really that hard to limit the "For Sale/Wanted" section to members only? (Password needed to access link.) I would feel much more comfortable buying from a fellow NCRS member than from someone on Ebay.

I will keep beating the horse, even though it is pretty much dead. Rob, I was - and still am - looking for the number of individual members who visited the tech board in January 2013. Last time I checked January is over -- regardless of where in the world we are. I am trying to find a typical winter month when people are indoors in the Northern climates. I want to avoid the influx of members signing up the National Convention February 1, which was included in your 592 number -- or at least that influx appeared to be included in the "592 members anticipated [participated] on the TDB since 1/1/2013." I also waqnt to avoit the Holiday season which might have folks occupied with other activities than the TDB.

Again I will ask: “Why is this so hard?”

Go to top of this page, click "Forum" then on the next page click "Technical Discussions" and at the top of that page is Sticky: "POLL: would you like to see a for sale section on the forum?" Click that and vote

I would trust that more NCRS people would be straight shooters than those on Ebay or CF. Don't know how it could be done, and I understand the lower volume could make it cost prohibitive, but that's my take on this specific question.

Greg makes a solid point and perhaps we should get real data on these questions:

                          What percentage of participants...........

Buy from the online store vs call with a credit card or mail in a check?

Register online for events vs call with a credit card or mail in a check?

Renew memberships online vs call with a credit card or mail a check?

Email their regional reps vs call or snail mail? (difficult to measure?)

I'll speculate it is easily over 50% if it was anything near 5% I doubt these options would last this long.

We CANNOT raise membership dues to pay for an online for sale section. I would be PO'd if my dues were raised for something I did not want. I pay enough "tax" already for things benefiting others!

Charge those who wish to use the online section an annual registration fee or a modest "per ad" fee. And let me pull the ad when I've bought or sold.

Why does the NCRS need this? Aren't we SUPPOSED to help one another around here? I would feel much better buying from "Joe Blow member 12345" on an NCRS sponsored web site than Mr "Screwuagain" on eBay. I dont recall ever scoring anything from the Driveline, it is ALWAYS sold. And yes I have sold items in the Driveline, usually to the first caller. Then... I spend the next 45 days telling disappointed follow-on callers the bad news. I eventually resort to screening my callers with my answering machine because it just wears me out. Who needs that?

Leave the Driveline ALONE for God's sake. It is established and serves a valid purpose.

I do NOT understand where the resistance is coming from here. We have smart people offering their expertise to get this running. It really should not be that difficult. Practically every auto forum out there has this availible, Heck, Craiglist is offered in every moderately sized city in America and doesn't cost a dime for anyone to use. Watch out though, there are a lot of scammers out there. Locally we've had people held at gun point when meeting a seller with "cash" to buy a non-existant "good deal". Count me out of that action because I don't need it.

                            Tracy,
You feel more comfortable buying from NCRS members? Look at some of the vendor rants about poor customer service or even parts delivered not as advertised on this board. You do realize that those vendors in almost all cases are dues paying members of NCRS. Anyone can buy an NCRS membership, and membership is no assurance of a fair and honest transaction.

I wonder how many NCRS members belong solely for The Restorer and have no interest in buying or selling parts. My bet, after talking to hundreds of members, is it is close to 50% and maybe greater. Add that to the small numbers who actually visit this site (I don't mean use the site to sign up for meets; I mean use the TDB), and you are asking the IT team to expend a lot of volunteer time and effort for the benefit of very few, but noisy, people.

OK then we should not publish the Driveline then if members only want the Restorer. Seems you are quoting %'s for the Restorer that have nothing to do with the for sale site/Driveline which we are discussing here. I woud still like know why ads from venders on a for sale site are different that thwe ones we have in the Driveline.
