    Re: Recommendations on Weatherstip glue

Thanks for all the posts. I got the can of Pliobond last night. It looks spot on to original. I used some on a test part with paint on it. It definately softens the paint and removes any shine/sheen whatsoever from the paint, so be VERY CAUTIOUS with this stuff. I let the test spot get tacky, and then removed it. The luster of the paint underneath was gone. I am torn if I am going to apply it to my car or not. Is it worth a point or two? I don't know. Nonetheless, I wanted to post my results so others would know how it came. Thanks again for all the help guys...ARA

Art, I think that the 3M glue does the same

Just a general observation here.... But aren't we are a bunch of whack jobs to talking about the "color" and intentional addition of "glue slop" on an otherwise good Corvette restoration??

I guess that's why I love this place...I feel right at home. Now if I could just get someone to loosen my straight jacket a little. It's starting to cut off the blood supply to my brain..

It's a bit more (but not much more) than just matching the factory original color of the weatherstrip adhesive...

The 3M adhesive is THICK and very hard to apply with a paint brush to duplicate the factory original installation method. Pliobond is thin/wattery and lends itself to paint brush application techniques.

But, nobody holds a gun to our heads during restoration to say we HAVE to duplicate the factory original telltale 'slop' of the adhesive! It's just a matter of a point or two on the judging score sheet. So, we're not ALL a straight jacket candidate...

Yea I know... My tongue was planted firmly in my cheek as I posted my comment. I read the whole thread and just started laughing.

And as far as that gun to the head thing...if anybody trys that with me, let them be forwarned that I know Joe Jetsu, Kung Pow and other stuff that might get them a stomp in the groin.

For what it's worth, I'm not the point of smearing an otherwise good job to get points YET. 99.9% that know me and/or look at the frame up I am doing think I am nuts sorting thru bolts and #s . I hope the N in NCRS will continue to stand for National.

                Re: Recommendations on Weatherstip glue

Ara, in preperation for the 2004 Nationals with my 67 coupe I mixed up a batch of elmers glue and yellow food color and applied it with an acid brush because the weather strip was in place. The results were a little too yellow for me so I went over it with a brown craft glaze, it came out great with no deducts, only positive comments.
