Question for John Hinckley; 69 Z28

The following my also apply for Corvettes:

John: I have a 69 Z28 that got certified by your friend Jerry McNeisch.
He tells me my Voltage Regulator and Horn Relay worked OK but where
"Generic". I presume the correct V/R is 1119515 and H/R is 1115890. Those numbers match your 69 Z28 correct? I'm told the H/R has no dates
on it but the V/R does. I found one V/R with 7L on it which I presume is
Dec. of 1967. I know this is probably too early for a 06A 69 Camaro but have
you found them that old with your findings at Camaro.Org? We all know
that some parts lay around in the bin a long time before use. Comments
    from all are welcome.

Larry, I own a 67 RSSS350 Camaro 11E build it has a 6K=october 66 (I is not used for dates on regulators). My 66 vette March 3rd build date has a 6B= February 66 date. Try calling John Pirkle he may have one with a closer date for your car.

Larry - Correct, horn relays do not have any manufacturing dates or date codes. Regrading the voltage regulator date, based on my observations a DR 515 voltage regulator date years ahead of the car build date would be unlikely and certainly questionable, but as we all know, not impossible. My experience is that the DR 515 voltage regulator dates are usually within a month or two maybe three prior to the build month of car although if the car was built late in the month the voltage regulator date could be that same month.

So unless you can document the originality of the 7L voltage regulator to the car and from what I read in your post the voltage regulator in the car now is not a DR 515 voltage regulator configuration used in 1969, i.e., no manufacturing date. So with a nice car like yours, it seems to me that finding a DR 515 with the correct configuration for the time period and a manufacturing date that is closer to the build date of the car would be the "best" course of action. Pete

        Larry -

A November '67 regulator isn't going to fly date-wise on a June '69-built car; my untouched/original 02D '69 Z/28 was built on February 27, 1969, and has a 9B regulator. I've never seen a 515 regulator that predates the car's build date by more than two months.

Thanks to all the comments. Will continue to look for one that has
          a little closer date.

I did happen to find a V/R that was in my date range from a fellow
from Illinois who rebuilds them. I thought I would share a photo with
you. My 69 Camaro is a 06A build.
