    66 Hubcap part help

I am in the process of restoring my 66 hubcaps and have a part that only showed up on 1 out of my 4 hubcaps. Per the attached picture, one of my hubcaps has an extra thim metal solid disc that was riveted on behind the plastic flag emblem (upper right). All of the original rivets look intact on the other hubcaps so not sure if they fell off at some point or if they were ever there. I searched all of the corvette houses and none show this as a replacement part. So I have a couple questions. 1) was this "cap" installed on all hubcap spinners? 2) If yes, does anyone know a source to find them? 3) If no source, would there be a judging hit if I reassembled without them? Thanks - Joe

Joe, can you see it with the hub cap assembled?

Yes, there is a hole on the backside of the hubcap a little smaller than a quarter. Dark in there but if you looked in you could see.

        Joe,

Mine look much as yours do. I just cleaned them up as best I could with some fine steel wool and re-used them. I checked LIC and didn't see them listed separately and assume they might sell it as part of the spinner. Anyway, you might call them and ask if they sell it separately (or try calling Paragon).

        Good luck

          Joe,

I have set of 4 original hubcaps, and all four of mine have that 'cap'.

Thanks Ryan, upon closer inspection it looks like the 3 with the missing cap had the center emblems replaced at some point. It looks like they have been re-peened over. Probably wasnt enough meat on the rivet to install the new emblem and cover. Anyway, now off to search for an obscure set of hubcap inner caps....

When my '66 was judged they did not remove the hubcap, so if it is on the back, it will not be judged.
