    Thanks Dan

I guess you just basically look for the Kelsey Hayes logo, date codes(except early 3825686), 15x5 1/2 K stamp, and that will correspond with one of the above listed part numbers.

Please clarify "except early 3825686". Are you saying the 3825686 will not have date codes?

        Hi Dan:

It's my understanding that some of the early 3825686 did not have date codes whereas the later 3825686 all had date codes, but I really don't have a clue. I've only seen one 1963 wheel (tapered back) but the stampings are barely legible and I couldn't make out the date.

          Earliest '63 date I have a picture of 12 63.

No, the part numbers were not stamped anywhere on the wheels.

I agree. I've never seen a GM part number stamped on GM steel wheels, at least not any Corvette steel wheels. In my opinion, this was another REALLY DUMB thing that GM did. It's often important to properly identify wheels and without a part number it's extremely difficult.

I have a wheel from car 1200 and the date stamp is 8 62.

                Dan:

Your picture and Tom Hendricks' picture of the 12 62 stamping are real clear and sharp. The only one I have isn't half as good. I see that Harry Sadlock(post#27) has an 8 62 wheel. That would make it the earliest one that I heard of. In one of my earlier searches on this website I've heard that some company might be producing these wheels in the future. I personally can't see it. It seems to be too small of a market to make it worthwhile.

I'll have to admit that these wheels are hard to come by. Oh well, one down and four to go.

Re: More about 63-64 Corvette steel wheels

The earliest 63-64 wheel that I ever owned (1990's) was dated " 1 63" (Jan. 1963) unless you count the one that was stamped "6 59" (June 1959??????) by mistake. Before I sold the wheels I made "rubbings" of the stampings.

                  Note that on the "1 63" and the "6 59" wheels the "15 X 5 1/2 K" stamping are the same size digits (1/8") but the "1 64" wheel "15 X 5 1/2 K" stamping on the " 1 64" wheel is a larger text (5/32").

BTW, while I was at Fall Carlisle 2004 I spotted another 63-64 Corvette wheel stamped with the same "6 59" date.

Examples of the dates Daves cites, 1 63 date and a 1 64 date.
