64 (and probably other C2) Door panels

I removed the door panels before starting the restoration. They were about the only thing on the car in good condition. I bought and installed the stainless strips that attach to the upper edge of the door panels and also new fuzzy window wipe strips. The stainless pieces run the entire length of the upper edge of the door panel. The fuzzies were approximately 24 inches long.

When I reinstalled the panel there was a gap of ~1/4" between the stainless strips and the bottom edge of the vent window frame. I could not figure out what is causing this gap and found no way to eliminate it. Last night I noticed that the fuzzy strip extends ~ 3 inches forward of the vertical (back) channel of the vent window frame. It looks like this section of fuzzy strip is hard agaist the extension of the vent frame that is the front channel of the side window. It seems to me that it is this section of fuzzy strip that is holding the door panel away from the vent frame. I'm ready to remove the door panel with the intention of cutting off that section of the fuzzy that extends forward of the vent window post, but I figure it's worth asking if others have encountered this before I go nuts with a hacksaw. Anyone?

Doug, are these repro or NOS fuzzies? The repros don't fit original door panels well.

      Hi Dan,
They are repros. I took the panels off last night. The fuzzies are glued to the SS strips so I trimmed off the section of fuzzy that extended forward of the vent post. I could see that the fuzzy in that section was compressed from being pushed against the vent post. Removing that section from each SS piece helped a little. There is still a small gap, mostly in the center of the vent frame because of the curve in the frame. I see no other way to close that gap so I'll live with it I guess.

      Happy new year,
      Doug
