Just recently purchased 1968 convertible with the long term goal of being judged. In the interim it needs new tires. Any recommendations on the closest looking thing to the tires that came on it. Of course want radials

Re: Tires for 1968
There is no radial tire that is configured anything like the original tires. Plus, you will find that finding any tire in the current P-metric size equivalent to the original tires (either 215-70-15 or 225-70-15) will be a challenge in itself. You will not be able to find a true high performance tire (i.e. "H", "Z", "W", or "Y" speed-rated) generally available in these sizes anymore. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Tires for 1968
Hi Kenneth,
I purchased my '68 bias ply tires from Kelsey Tire http://www.kelseytire.com/home.html Bias ply is what came on your car and judges the best of all the reproduction tires on the market today. However, they are bias ply tires and are not the best for a comfortable ride as compared to today's radial tires. You will have to make the choice of which way to go. I drove my '68 with the bias ply tires to the Novi National last year and there was no problem, after the flat spots drove out. I lost 10% (3 points total) for configuration of the tires at the national. I should have asked more about this at the time but didn't. I'm not sure if or how the configuation differs from the original in the judges eye.

I do not have the tank sticker - but the car came with hub caps - I really prefer the red line sidewalls.- Top

Kenneth
If you want radials with red lines your going to be very limited. BF Goodrich has a tire: http://www.cokertire.com/p215-70r15-...ne-radial.html or you could go with Diamond Back: http://www.dbtires.com/. I can't think of any other tires off hand that match your criteria. Neither will be true performance tire.
I have Diamond Back tires on all three of my Corvettes (67, 68, 69) and I've been very pleased with them.
