That's correct - the taillight housings are vented, providing the outlet for the air being fed to the trans and diff coolers from the inlets at the top of the quarter panels. They were able to do that due to the taillamp LED light sources being below each lamp, reflected upwards through the lenses.
    John & Adam,
If I understood the Scottsdale presentation correctly the rear fender scoops are only functional on the "competition" model. The "GT model" has them blocked, even though the black intake grill is in place.

Having personally seen the new C7 I like the GM version better.
Just imagining a NCRS member in forty years at a judging meet stating:
"This 2014 Corvette came from Chevrolet with the round tail lights"
      Just thinking here.
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
      I hope you dance

A mid yr or solid axle body replacement could cure the looks issue. There were some good looking resto mods at Florida regional and at the cruise in. The c7 with the old 50's and 60's body is just a matter of time.......

When I was a kid growing up in the '60's and I saw the first C2 with 6 tailights I just though it was a top of the line Corvette. Since Impala and later Caprice had six tailights and the cheaper Bel Air and Biscayne had four. I'm glad my '65 was ordered without Z01 Comfort and Convenience Group, I like the looks of both tail lights being red.

As far as the C7, I like it the way it is. Yeah...it does follow the some of same theme as Camaro and Malibu, that's really not much different then the past. Quite a few folks said the C4's in 1983 took used a lot of styling hints from the 3 generation Camaro release in 1982.

Trouble we have with being old is we don't like change. When I bought new midyears one wouldn't be caught dead driving around the hood without 6 tail lights. Right Clem???
Meanwhile leave the C7 alone as it looks quite excotic as is.
If you want round lights/lamps then buy an old Corvette. True Story. Old JD

I don't mind change at all. I thought the changes from the C1-C4 eras were dramatic, looked great, and were identifiably Corvette. I personally don't care for the C7 because I don't think it looks asthetically pleasing, and it has furthered watered down long-standing Corvette cues like the round tailights (the C6 began this when it took away the hidden headlights). JMHO, and to each his own.
