Template for installing 454 numbers on the 71 hood?

Can anyone please tell me if there is a template available for drilling the holes to install the numbers on a hood. I can't bring myself to drill a hole until I know more.Thanks,Bruce

Bruce, The AIM does have the measurements for drilling the holes, But the easier way is if someone has a hood with the numbers off and made a template. I don't know about you but hate to think about drilling holes and making one mistake. Maybe someone has does this on the TDB and made a template or can make one, If I had a big block I Would make one for you.

Thank you Edward. The AIM gives the specs but still a nightmare scenario if a mistake is made. Tough deal for sure.

Beware. My 427 numbers on one side of my factory hood were all crooked. Just because the factory did it doesn't mean it was correct.

I'd avoid fax and printing. The scaling won't be exact. Shoot for either a dimensioned drawing or a template made diectly from the hood and mailed to you.

Don't worry. The way I am sending it to you is almost fool proof. Send me your private email and I will send you over the pictures of the lay-out of the template. I am sure you will see how easy it will be for you to get this right.

If I were drillingmy hoodnow, I would lower the first "4" 1/8" to 3/16" to make them line up better. But, this is how it was done at the factory.

Once you lay it on there it will not be able to move.

I zoomed in and out on the picture with the holes on it. Once I got the blue tape to be 1 1/2" wide by zooming in and out, I laid a piece of white paper over the screen.

I then copied the holes on the piece of paper. Then took the piece of paper outside to the car and the template fit exacly as if I took it off the car itself.

just an idea, but it worked, it worked very well.
