    Re: C4 Judging

    Kenneth:
Who knows what the future will bring? There a large quantities of C4s out there and many of them are owned by NCRS types like us. If they are restored like the C1s, C2s and C3s, the aftermarket suppliers will turn out the parts needed, I believe. Sure, they may be expensive but to get a Top Flight car, the owners will probably be willing to pay. I just had my '86 Coupe out this morning and it runs almost like it did when I drove it out of the showroom in October of 1985. Not all parts are original and correct, but that is not my main concern.

Based on what you said, I believe that NCRS will have to be a little more understanding when it comes to originality for some C4 parts. My '86 was judged at a Regional a few years ago and the judges were just as "strict" as they were with earlier years. Luckily, my car was in good shape and did not have many replacement parts that took deductions. As years go on, it will be more difficult for C4 owners to get Top Flights, in my opinion, due to unavailability of good quality replacement parts.
As a fellow C4 enthusiast I sympathize with what you're saying, but as with the older cars the standard is the standard, and IMO it should remain so regardless of how difficult finding parts may become. IMO NCRS should not be in the business of trying to make any award easier to obtain for any given year or generation.

On the other hand I don't think NCRS should make any award any harder to obtain either, and that's why I disagree with NCRS requiring C4s to pass each judged section by 90% for the Crossed Flags award, whereas the Bowtie award for earlier generations only require 80%-85% for each judged section. I've been told it's because C4s were built and treated better, to which I say, "so what"? If more C4s remain in great original shape than earlier cars that's something we should celebrate, not penalize them for.

I agree! Treat all years the same. I am not knocking th C-4's but the fact that it will get harder to find parts & to restore & keep then running will be a problem as I & others have said.
