    Turn Signals Not Working

Hello. I have done a thorough search on the forum about this and thought I'd post my situation for further insight. Our '66 coupe is just out of a 10-month restoration. Before the car came apart, all lights and signals worked fine.

Now as I am reassembling and getting it ready for the road, there are some perplexing issues with the directional signals and brake lights. Specifically, here is what works and what does not:

Works: head and tail lights, back up lights, parking lights, right hand turn signals

Does not work: brake lights, turn signals on left side (front and back)

Odd stuff: When stepping on the brake, the right turn signals will blink and continue to blink regardless of where the turn signal lever is positioned. I can cancel the blinking by moving the lever.

I have replaced the flasher unit, have checked the switch affixed to the steering column, and have looked at, but have not replaced any fuses. I assume I have a good ground based on the fact that headlights and parking lights all work front and back.

I sure would appreciate any advice you might be able to offer. Thanks and best wishes.

The first thing I would check would be the light bulbs. Each bulb has two filiments and if one of the filiments is out on a bulb it may work in running lights but not work in directional light.

Marc, Since the brake light switch wires loop through the directional switch,It sounds like a bad switch. I believe they had a lot of issues since there plastic they tend to warp and the contacts on the switch loose contact. If you have a spare switch plug it in under the column and then try.

Also just make a check of the connection under the column sometimes the electrical pins will push out when re-plugging the switch halfs together.

Another thing you might try is step in the brake pedal to activate the rear lights and then take the turn signal switch and wiggle to see if the brake lights will flicker or work in either direction. This will tell you if the switch is bad also.
