Re: Radiator Support Washers
Alex, Contact this guy. He has sold me these washers before. I have not bought them in a few years but I am sure he has a large stock. http://www.stefsperformance.net/stef...ation/products Good Luck, Joe- Top

Re: Radiator Support Washers
Are these from a '67? They both appear to be unplated, correct? Please give all dimensions if you still have them off of the car.
I have been following this thread. I looked yesterday but was not able to find my thick washers. I only found four of the thin washers.
Thanks,
Mike- Top

Re: Radiator Support Washers
There are two sizes seen on 66 cars, can't vouch for some as being un molested but for those I have more confidence, the thickness x diameter is special and I have a die in the works, check back in August.
They are also available on feebay in an incorrect size and thickness and plated which is wrong too. Originals seen on un molested cars are raw.- Top

Re: Radiator Support Washers
I have found that the unplated washer used as the thick FW used to attach the transmission mount to lower bracket, GM part #3700338 shown in the AIM is exactly the washer used under the thin FW in the BB outer radiator mounting bracket bolts.
As Mike Hanson stated, its .187" thick, or 3/16" and OD is 1.375", or 1 3/8", the ID roughly .458", or 29/64"
It appears that these washers must have been close by on the line and someone decided to just grab them and add them as a safety measure as the ends of the outer bolts were coming really close to the radiator tank.
If you google that part number it appears it is still available from GM (assuming the dimensions have not changed) and it is used in a number of applications across the GM line, sold by repo houses also on the flea.
Can anyone comment? Wonder when this "undocumented addition" really started to appear and was it random?- Top

Re: Radiator Support Washers
Thanks guys. I was beginning to think I was the only one that knew about these special washers. (not listed in the AIM) I remember seeing these extra fat washers on 66 and 67 cars going back 40 years ago when most cars were still original and un.
Looks like Bill Caldwell nailed it. I knew I'd seen these washers used in other locations but couldn't remember where.
I agree, I don't think the fat washer was plated. I know the thin washer was though.- Top

Here's another photo of the as-produced thick/thin washers - don't recall where I got it.

Re: Radiator Support Washers
One more thing that I noticed. The 66 AIM shows lock washers for all six bolts, two for the fan shroud and four for the radiator brackets. My 66 has lock washers on the center/fan shroud bracket but none on either radiator bracket.
I wonder if any engine compartment pic's of new 66 and 67's in the Adams book show the fat washers?- Top

Re: Radiator Support Washers
I have not looked for it in anyones books, but I do know that using original bolts, using the thin flat washer, the fat flat washer, and the lock washer it is very difficult to get the bolt started in the bracket weld nut and once tightened the end of the bolt is not visible protruding thru the weld nut.
I would not be surprised if the fellow on the line did not use the LW as it was too difficult to do. Neither would I be surprised to see the thick washer used on both inner and outer bolts for the outer brackets. Who knows, maybe one guy, one shift decided he liked them on the center also? This undocumented stuff was done on the fly, so anything is possible I suppose.- Top

Re: Radiator Support Washers
That number, 3700338, is also used for 63 trans mounting (UPC6 sC4.00) and 64 (UPC6sB6.00). Before that its called out for the 55-57 Vet as a frt. mtg. bolt (GM has marked as a bolt but calls out all the specs above) It's also shown in the 69 Camaro AIM, same mounting function. The part number appears to be replaced around 1979 by 3913456.- Top
