yellow markings under splash shields on my 75 roadster

This forum is a huge help and source of encouragement. I have the frame off and have started cleaning the underside. I pulled the splash shields of and on the drivers side in yellow the letters PB are written. Obviously a reference to power brakes. On the passengers side it says 588 x. Any ideas what that means? Also not related, I found a contact switch, not attached to anything hanging by the wires by the washer motor. Again any idea what its for?

That is the body's job number assignment in the body shop to coordinate panels as they were built for your vehicle. If you have the buildsheet, it should reconcile with Box 10 SCHED NO data. Here's a link to an excerpt from the buildsheet book that introduces the topic.

If you can take and post a picture, we could figure it out but the only switch in the engine compartment should be the alarm switch but it shouldn't be hanging around.

      Thanks Tony,
The alarm switch for the hood I see. It looks like a door light switch. This is different, the switch looks more like a headlight door switch. I will take a pic and post it.

          Brian,
That's it! It looks like a headlight door switch. The stud must have broken off. Where does it mount?

Figured it out! That switch mounts behind the anti theft key switch. I guess if someone tries to pry the key switch out of the car, this switch will sense that and set off the alarm.

It mounts on a bracket inside the driver's front fender directly behind the car alarm lock.
