Re: Beware of 1954 Corvette scam listing on eBay -- my car is being "sold" by a scamm

I reported it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (I3C) initially and sent a more recent update, as well. The I3C is a partnership of the FBI and National White Collar Crime Center.

I believe the guy has a 54 but hijacked your picts because he is too lazy to take his own or the Corvette is not in good shape. Many people on ebay lift picts & desc. from other adds. This has bee going on for a long time. Don't know why he doesn't post the SN.

Re: Beware of 1954 Corvette scam listing on eBay -- my car is being "sold" by a scamm

I got a call Wednesday morning asking about the 67 VW I had for sale online.
My car, my pictures my phone number but not my for sale listing.
I sold the car 4 years ago with that advertisement.
So, just another aggravating a-hole doing useless things.
There was no way he could benefit from the advertisement.

Yes they could. People with web sits & magazines often lift adds to fluff up there add count on the cars for sale sites. & mags.. Hell online dating services also lift profiles & put them on there site.

A no sale again at $37,605. Wonder if they will try again? You do have to wonder why a scammer would be so concerned about meeting a reserve when all he wants is your down payment anyway?

Again I believe he has a 54 but just lifted the picts. & descriptions. I think the second listing wanted his money in 7 days. I didn't see a request for a down payment.

If you read reply #9, and the email response, he wants you to put your money in Google Wallet before you can pick it up. He claims they will hold the money (first payment $4900) until you can test drive it and be satisfied, then release the money to him.

For those of you that are concerned about law enforcement not paying attention to this, don't forget that it's not a significant crime until it's done. Go watch an old Dragnet or factual crime show. You can't arrest them for a felony until the deal is done (and this type and size of fraud would probably a be felony in most states). The laws have not changed.

We were once involved with a confidence couple who were trying get free meals, hotels, and rental cars (and probably cash in the end). We caught them at the rental car place before anything had been given to them. We had the Sheriff meet us there and he said that he couldn't do anything since no laws had been broken.

Out of curiosity I wrote the seller and received this response:
                    "Hello,
I am glad that you are interested in my Corvette . It's a 1954 Chevrolet Corvette. One of the originals-this is where it all began. Today's all-conquering ZR1 traces its roots back here, to a car built on a whim by GM brass. "Blue Flame" inline six power, a Powerglide transmission and a primitive suspension don't point to today's car, but the fiberglass body, free American spirit and unmistakable styling certainly do.
I legally own a clear title, free of any liens or loans, under my name. Not interested in a trade and my final price is $44,900. Just want to sell it ASAP, I am using Google Wallet as my ex-wife suggested, she also sold her car, without any headaches!First of all please let me know where are you located ?I will also need to know if you require a loan ? Or the funds are available ?Thank you, Antonio Baker"

I thought something sounded familiar so Googled the precise phrase

I legally own a clear title, free of any liens or loans, under my name. Not interested in a trade and my final price is...

and came up with 114 hits.

Really old scam tactics. If eBay won't take down the ad, I've lost even more respect for them.

.....someone should ask for a FAX of the "clear title" and see what the VIN# really is. That is, IF he really does have a Red '54 for sale.

I sent the guy a email through ebay asking for a vin # & got back a pict. of Peters 54 after the bidding was over. He wants me to send 4900.00 through Google. Someone will get scammed.
