Re: 2-13-14 Update on NCM sinkhole recovery & new Corvette Plant Manager
It has been 2 1/2 years since I was there and heard the '83's story. It was parked next to a wall on the outside of the domed area when I was there I think. According to the guide (a retired employee who started in St. Louis and later transferred to BG) it was parked outside next to the plant in the grass for many years after it was hidden away, with a tarp over it, protected by secrecy from the plant managers and employees until it was "saved" and put into safer keeping by the powers that be in GM, who assumed before it had been crushed. Anyway, a great historic vehicle for sure.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: Brace Yourselves
Actually, after perusing some Mopar and Ford sites...the general consensus was sympathy. After all we're all car enthusiats!! Good to see some camaraderie!

Re: Brace Yourselves
Sadly, on the Shelby sites, there is some animosity about Corvettes. One comment: "It couldn't have happened to a better group of guys". Strange attitudes in the car world sometimes.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: 2-13-14 Update on NCM sinkhole recovery & new Corvette Plant Manager
Clarification should be made. Yourself, along with many others have made an assumption that GM will foot the bill. This is not my take on the wording used or should I say not used. This was a quote recently sent to me "None of us own the threads we start, nor do we have control over where they will go." But what is being said by outside car enthusiasts doesn't really help or relate to the issue. My .02
Edit: A reply from a previous thread on sinkholes John Hinkley said "When they retrieve the guy's C5 from the sinkhole, the title will become "Salvage" when the insurance company totals it"
Does this apply here as well? Curious how the vehicles are "titled" now?- Top

If the cars are recovered I think it would be neat to display them "as is" for a period of time before restoring them. The "sinkhole" did become part of their history.- Top
