Hang in there Clem. These things have a habit of changing as the comments come in and cooler heads prevail. Rich

        Re: understanding

It's not a matter of money or is it? Not many non-members of NCRS use this forum and if so it should in courage them to join NCRS.
Oh well NCRS shot them self again in the foot , makes this old dog

          Re: Bad Idea

What a dumb idea, the board has gone down hill since the last blood letting and the new improved proposed board, well we will see. As for people getting out of hand I just have not seen that compared to other web sites.

The site should be expanding its features (add more people) not trying to limit them. The board has been a great resource and an area where one could find out the real stories not just the published details.

As for people planning not to post any longer - there just may be no reason any longer.

            Re: If you decide depart

Hey Clem, I'm with Chuck. Even though we've never communicated thru this board to my rememberance regarding any subject, I still read your every post. One day, I'll need your help, as will most of us. And, when we do, I'd rather be one contributing to your NCRS membership than letting you slip into the abyss. Sooooooo, if we need to gather some members for the cause, please count on me.

                Re: Bad Idea

Of the several automotive sites I visit, this is the one where I read the highest percentage of postings for the good information contained therein. It makes no difference to me if the person posting is a member or non-member so long as the information is valuable. Not only do I wonder what the Board is
offering as the rationale for this decision, but also what is the real reason for the change. Perhaps it is yet another attempt to stifle criticism and make it appear as if NCRS is a perfect world without rancor. Every change of this type makes me feel further and further away from those who are supposed to be running the organization for our mutual benefit. Ed Boyd, #12363

                  Re: Bad Idea

To be honest I often wondered why one didn't have to be a member to post and receive this invaluble info that we sometimes take for granted. Then I realized that I "used" this forum for about two years before I guilted myself into joining! Had the requirement to be a member to use the forum, I don't think I would have joined and yes I realize that it would have been my loss! But unless you experience what the forum is about you won't realize what you are loosing...

My point is that I think the NCRS will draw more new members into the group by leaving the forum rules as they are, especially for those that live in remote places that don't have exposure to NCRS events. This forum is a way to get to know some of the great people in this hobby AND learn a tremendous amount about your car and others cars as well. Yes some non members will still jump in, post a question and then leave without so much as a "thank you" now and then and the feeling might be that they didn't contribute a thing so why let them have that info for free? Well in fact they did "contribute" in a way because a question was asked and probably answered so we still got something from this non member.

I won't even try to explain "members" like you Clem. Non members like you contribute far more than members like me will ever be able to so there should be some allowance there. Maybe the board should look into grand fathering members like yourself or have an honorary member list or something to that effect.

Either way I'm pretty sure that the board wouldn't go down this road if they didn't think it was to better the organization in the future. I don't know how the politics of the group work but maybe the reasons for choosing to restrict the forum to members only should be made known so that we can all understand why they are doing this. We may or may not agree but at least we'll see why they deceided to do this. Then if we see thier reasons those that still don't agree can contact them with their points and maybe come to a compromise, who knows.

NOW if the board really wants a members only forum...a classifieds section would be a plus!

I have enjoyed your participation and never fail to learn from your posts. I guess that I always thought that you were a member considering the great interest that you show. Do you mind if I ask why you are not a member? It can't be the annuual dues since you have a new Corvette coming. Is it an issue with the organization?

                      Re: Hoping for a solution.

I just did a search of "clem" in one of the four archive periods. I got 1602 hits. I read many of them, and could not find a question - only answers. Clearly Clem does not need us. We need him. I fear if he leaves us my car will stop running in about three days.

Shucks Denny, I've got both feet on the floor..

This isn't the first time this has been discussed here. I've expressed similar comments a couple of other times in the past. I feel this board should be viewed as a recuiting tool for the organization. Draw people in, not exclude them.

Nevertheless, I wasn't at the board meeting when the decision was made. No doubt this position was discussed, and for what ever the reason, the majority of leaders decided there was a better approach.

My intent isn't to discredit anyone. I just wanted to share my testimony.
