Nope, just a white number 14. Nothing else. Guess it isn't the job number then?

That looks almost identical to mine. So whatever it is, they were clearly doing it on multiple cars!

Just re-keyed my car ignition to match the original door key locks. Can't remember the key lock number, but I think Pete wrote it down for me. I will check his notes tonight at home and see if it matches. Although the large number posted above would hardly represent a key number would it???

I don't think the letter is on the metal brace behind the dash on an A. O. Smith car. It will be on the job number on the bulk head in front of the gas tank, and on the passenger side firewall.

So, is your thought that it represents a "shorthand" of the job number just minus the letter?

Re: Found My AOS Job Number Today!?

I found all three on my '67. Let me look at my photo archive when I did my body off. I know for a fact that the passenger side firewall and the gas tank bulk head did have L338 written in yellow grease pencil--same handwriting. However, the steel bird cage behind the dash was written in red grease pencil, and I think it only read 338. I'll check and re-post.

                              Donald,

Your 333 is the job number for your car. Yours is typical of STL bodied cars which have job numbers ranging from 1-500, and they are typically found on the rear bulkhead, passenger firewall, and inside of the doors.
