    rare water pump

I am looking for some repair parts for a magnesium water pump, GM part # O 294 581 AL or O 309 383. I beleive it was cast in 8 31 68 or 66 the casting is flawed. Please help, I need repair parts.
    thanks

I am not aware of any magnesium water pump ever available from GM. I am certain that one was never used in PRODUCTION and I'm about 99% sure that one was never available in SERVICE. So, if you, indeed, have a magnesium water pump that was sourced from GM, then it must be a prototype piece or a very limited production, "one-off" type racing piece which was never available through normal GM parts channels. The part number which you described does not look like any series of GM part numbers that I'm familiar with.

Assuming that it is a GM-sourced water pump of some prototype or limited production nature, then it MAY be that "standard-type" GM water pump parts were used in conjunction with a magnesium casting. Water pump bearing/shaft assemblies and seal assemblies for STANDARD type water pumps are available from several of the Corvette vendor sources. However, if the pump uses non-standard parts, then the only way that you are going to obtain the parts is to take the old parts to an industrial bearing supplier (like King Bearing) and an industrial seal supplier (like John Crane) and match them up with something that they may have available.

Yes, that's correct. However, the bearing/shaft and seal which you mentioned are for the 71-82 style Corvette small block water pumps. This is the large bearing assembly with a 3/4" PILOT shaft, which is unique to Corvettes and a few HD truck applications. This bearing/shaft assembly and seal will not fit the 55-70 style Corvette small block water pumps, the 55-68 Chevrolet small block short leg water pump (same as 55-70 Corvette), or any big block Corvette water pumps. Also, as far as I know, they will not fit long-legged style water pumps used on most 69+ Chevrolet small blocks and big blocks.

As far as I know, no component parts for the 55-70 small block water pumps or any big block water pumps remain available from GM.

If you are trying to replace the seal and bearings, a good bearing jobber should be able to match what you have. Let me know if there are no such outfits in your area.
