That particular part number I can come up with nothing on whatsoever. I don't think that it was ever used for any Chevrolet application. It may be some other car line.

From what I understand, that type of part numbering sequence does indicate a part as being a "prototype" item from GM.

            Re: OH-Dash Numbers

As I recall, when Chev. Engineering did special (internal) projects, be they prototype, experimental, etc., etc., they were assigned special numbers that began "0-xxx.." and they were often called "OH-DASH" numbers. These numbers got stamped into many parts to identify the specific project. You'll see many of these OH-DASH numbers stamped into the special Chev. engines on display at the Corvette Museum.

                Re: OH-Dash Numbers

Could well be an "escaped" prototype piece with the "0-" part number; we made a LOT of "0-" BB parts in mid-to-late '68 in development for the coming run of aluminum blocks for the Camaro ZL-1 program the following February and for the Reynolds blocks for the upcoming Can-Am season for Bruce and Denny. Sounds interesting

                    Ronnie,

Would this water pump fit a car like this?

Ron, To help clarify this part and part number issue I would like to add the following:

Apparently the 0 dash part numbered part you have is/was a GM experimental part, if in fact the number characters are all the SAME size and of uniform typeface. As John Hinckley has stated " Could well be an--- "escaped" prototype piece with the "0-" part number"----- as there were many "avenues" where 0 dash parts got out of GM's hands. What part of the country is your vehicle originally from?
The rest of the both the numbers you mention, (294 581 AL--I don't know what the AL is, it is not consistence with the GM part number system and 309 383), belonged to a BLOCK of part numbers that were issued to the TRUCK AND BUS GROUP----------------Note: This does NOT necessarily mean that it is a T & B prototype part. Chevrolet Engineering could/did "borrow" part numbers from other divisions for "prototype piece's " in order to keep certain projects under raps---if you know what I mean! OR it simply could have been a prototype part for T & B engine.

This pump was used on one of the early Chap. cars in nearby Midland texas. I think i have rounded up enough par5ts to repair the pump. Thanks to all for the help.
