    1969 Corvettes

    Hi,

My name is Michael and i am interested to talk and learn about these cars with people who also share interest in these cars. I like original style cars, factory documentation and to think that the documents and cars survived after all the years is amazing. Unfortunately their is a lot of dodgy stuff going on with these old Corvettes, re stamping, forgery documents etc.

I cant afford to be burned. I am not financially motivated, but i like to know what i am paying for. Younger people like myself don't seem to be getting into the original cars. So if the knowledge can be passed onto younger enthusiasts, then that is great. Because in a few years, people are not going to know which are real cars, real documents and which are bull****.

I am from Australia and to try and buy a Corvette via eBay, dealerships/ car websites is pretty hard. Most cars will be advertised as numbers matching, but when i ask to see the numbers, sellers stop talking to me, make excuses, send me blury photos, so you cant even understand what the numbers are any way. I guess that is why most of the Corvettes in Australia a bit rough because people buy over the internet and don't take the time to travel and inspect them.

I have joined the NCRS (59732), i don't know a lot though about the cars. Hopefully in the new year the Sydney chapter will do a judging meet that i can go to land earn more about the cars.

Lately i have been thinking about small blocks, because why spend big money on a big block, when chances are it is bull**** or dodgy in some way. So i been thinking about small blocks as well and happy to learn about them too. I still have hope, that their is nice big block out their for me, probably have to wait a while for nice cars to come around. I would be happy with just one good big block that i can keep for the next 40 years or more of my life and never sell.

Well i think i have a bit of time on my hands. If your interested to pass on some knowledge than great, if not, that's cool. Please let me know.

    Thanks

    Hello Mihajlo
thank you for joining NCRS and welcome to the Tech Discussion Board. Your situation is similar to most of us, including me when I got involved with these cars EXCEPT of your serious disadvantage to find a good car, being so far from the good old USA.
Your best bet is to make friends with people down under who might help guide you to your dream early shark car. You joined the big club, but did you also join your local chapter? If not, here is the info:
    Australia Chapter
    Murray Forman - Chairman
91 Diamond Hill Drive Diamond Hill Est.
    Kurrajong Hills, NSW 2758
    Australia
    Phone: 0245678330
    E-mail: eagleviews@bigpond.com
    Web: http://www.ncrs.com.au
I suggest you contact Murray Forman who is very active and travels here to USA for National meets, Carlisle, etc. He will have many contacts in Oz and USA who can help you find your car. Lean on him and his friends to help you. He will be happy to do it, I'm sure.
    Good luck in your search,

Also, the NCRS classified ads forum has C3 cars for sale. Here is a pretty nice 69 L68 with docs for sale right now.

      Hi Don,

Thanks for the reply. I have to get onto joining my local chapter in the new year.

I have been checking the NCRS classifieds/Driveline. I think i have narrowed it down to either blue or yellow colour that i want in a 1969 Corvette. None available at the moment.

        A piece of advice -

buy quality over color, any day and all day long.
If you choose color over quality you'll likely either be looking for a long time, or settle for a car that's not the quality you want.
If you really "can't afford to be burned" as you first mention, then this is even more true.

Many NCRS Chapters and members can help set up inspections of Corvettes that are local to us if you need that too.

Ideally i would like quality and colour together, if its possible. Probably going to take a while to find though.

In the mean time i guess i will slowly learn about the cars and get involved.

Thanks for all the info. Yes when required, Corvette inspections will be a must.

Mihajlo, They are out there if you look long enough and in a lot of places. I was looking for a 66 conv BB in mosport green and one saturday found one by luck 45 minutes away. Top flight and Bloomington gold this year. Get what you want and do not settle , or you may not be happy in the long run. Like others have said learn as much as you can first as not to get burned. Good luck in your search.

Does Australia still require that imported left hand drive cars be converted to right hand drive? That seems like an enormous problem to me.

For motor vehicles older than 30 years old, it is not required to convert them to right hand drive. So i can keep my future 1969 Corvette original left hand drive, just the way i like it.

Motor vehicles imported that are less than 30 years old have to be converted, so all the newer Corvettes are required.

Hello Mihajlo - I bought a '69 Corvette SB and was blessed to purchase a highly optioned, numbers matching, well documented (POP, tank sheet, etc.). I didn't know about NCRS until AFTER I bought my car. There is a lot to know and you are doing it right by joining FIRST and then looking.

                        Best wishes - Dennis

I am not really sure what to do these days. I look around online a lot for a nice Corvette with no result, i have a "wanted to buy" add in the NCRS driveline magazine for months now, with no result.
