Gary, I'm going to pass on any additional help on this post. Perhaps you can find a "paint expert" to help to understand paint formulas.

Attached is the formula for PPG DIA-9248, which is a PPG Acrylic enamel back in the day.
Don't have the formula for DDL-9300. Pages was dated 7-11-77.
My other pages dated "Revised1972" does not list 9248 nor 9300.

        Gary,

Thanks for posting the formula. Very interesting.

I think you meant to say acrylic lacquer, not acrylic enamel?

Nope. Lacquer was a DDL suffix. I think DIA suffix was acrylic enamel.

Just talked to my paint mixer.. Another old-timer. DIA was a flattened lacquer. The DMA320 is mixng black lacquer. The DX-265 was a universal mixing flatner.

Please, someone end this post. It is getting painful to read.

I was going to suggest some SEM rattle can black but, I like your suggestion better.

                      Gary,

Very interesting. It seems like the 9300 has a homeopathic dose of red that the 9248 lacks.

And they both start out with a base of DMA320, Rich Black.

I assume the DMA310 Clear is a flattening agent.

Thanks for beating the bushing to find the info.
