Re: "For sale" section thread missing

A year and a half ago I sold my 1967 427/390 roadster (Canadian Export w/ paperwork), correct down to the original floor mats on the CF way too cheap. It needed a surround, which I had. My email blew up as did my phone. If the NCRS had a real time "For Sale" web site it would have been posted there instead of the Corvette Forum. We live in a society of "Instant Gradification" such as Twitter and Facebook. When I decided to sell, I was NOT waiting whatever the lead time is to post a printed ad, although I would have rathered an NCRS guy bought it. Anyone remember Visicalc or Lotus 123 that replaced them? Yea, I'm still the guy that prints off articules from the computer to read them rather than read then on-line. Probably a hold over from printing punch cards to make changes to my programs. If we don't evolve we could join Visicalc.

Re: "For sale" section thread missing

I put some parts for sale in the Driveline last year and also sent a list to our chapter web guy who sent out a blast to all of our members and to some other regions also. The parts were all sold to NCRS members before the Driveline even came out. I felt kind of bad for all the guys who responded to the Driveline ad but at least the parts went to NCRS guys.

Re: "For sale" section thread missing

        well

i have an thought to share .... those who so strongly oppose a "for sale" section will eventlually not have to much of a say anyways at some point in time....

As the membership changes and those who strongly hate this section coming onboard- become WAY less involved in things (for all kinds of reasons good and bad) - and new younger guys and gals get onboard, THINGS will get bettter.

Change the guard and change the way things get done.

In other circles (first hand knolwedge) the NCRS gets more laughs when it comes to the structure of the TDB than you can imagine.
NOT the organization - just how the TDB is used. People can't even fathom why there is not a parts for sale area.
I explain about the hard copy being needed becuase of the few who can't use a mouse. Even try to bring up about advertising dollars.
All I hear is - well everyone else is figured it out - what the heck....

Honestly --- EVERYONE has a computer. Even my 88 year old mother-in-law uses the damn thing.

        My two cents....

Everyone has an opinion and many have been expressed...that is good and why we have the Thread. However, I can remember when we could not even register for an event on line...now we can register on line for most except maybe the Kissimmee Reg; bottom line, things get better all the time. Hang in my friends the BOD will work this out.

This thread originated over two years ago and we can't even agree to get a vote by the membership?

                  John,
you haven't missed anything. The NCRS Discussion forums are as you have described them. Sure hope that their primitive nature is not too much of a turn off for you. Many of us find what the TDB has to offer is very satisfactory. Not to say it could not be made better, and probably will some day. But what you see has been developed over time by volunteers with no support from sponsors. Please don't make your final judgment of this club and this forum in only two weeks. Hang in, and see if what is offered here has some value for you. I think it will. Welcome to the club, and to the Technical Discussion Board.

Re: "For sale" section thread missing

I will speak to the online Driveline. It is available back to the first online issue. Originally it was not digitized but laid out by conventional cut and paste and sent photo ready to the printer. It later was laid out in a publishing program whose name escapes me. Not many years ago it was finally published using Pagemaker (as it is today). I do not believe the digital files were available to archive.

Many would not believe the battles that went on just to get it to the point it is today. Maybe we will live long enough to see the 21st century,

I read through the entire post.. Again. I love all the numbers/figures being thrown around. My take on it is this: we are up to right around member no. 58,000, but we only have about 15,000 current members. I'm convinced the other 43,000 left because the Driveline isn't online.

A For Sale section I think is a good idea. I've seen other auto forums where non-members (visitors) could view the forum but couldn't post and couldn't use the search function. So limiting access to the For Sale forum or other TDB functions might be an incentive to become a paying NCRS member. I personally like the fact that the TDB isn't broken up into separate forums for each Corvette generation as I think that would divide our knowledge base as there are so many TDB regulars that have a tremendous amount of knowledge across all of the Corvette generations. JMHO.
