Well, I have the original engine for my car (rebuilt and temporarily stored). Every external component is "numbers matching" right down to the engine having the original waterpump. I have the original starter, original alternator, original distributor, original carburetor and just about every original piece of engine peripherals, too. However, I still say that it's configuration that's most important and not "matching numbers". "Matching numbers" is nice to have but it's FAR from being all-important or as significant as some folks think it is, at least in my opinion. And, I have not changed my opinion recently. I've held the same opinion for as long as I can remember.
