      Jack,

It looks like your throttle return spring bracket (attached to front LH bolts of intake manifold) is black phosphate. The same spring bracket part numberis used for 1964-1967 (maybe '63 too) small block exc. fuel injection, but the 1966 & 1967 Judging Guides say the spring bracket should be cad or zinc:

66JG: "The bracket is steel, not stainless steel, painted engine color on the base engine and cadmium zinc plated on the L79 350hp engine." (p. 110)

67JG: "The carburetor return spring is black phosphate connected to a cadmium or zinc plated bracket (painted engine color on base engine only)." (p. 78)

Should the throttle return spring bracket be cad/zinc plated on any 64-67 small block when it is not painted orange on the base engine?

Not trying to be a stick in the mud but what is the point of this? You said you didn't want to have the car judged & will not change things that will not make the Corvette drivable. You are not a new to NCRS so is it you just want others to let the rest of us know how smart some people are about C-2'S For God's sake you have cruse control no steering wheel that would be the first thing & then put a battery in to start it.

To honest .... I am taking what NCRS forum members are telling me about my car and passing it along as a learning tool for members on the other forums.....

We listen to complaints about the way people are treated by NCRS....and what do we do about it......is it so hard for you to read this post ... I am the one who is listening to the items listed and will make changes that will be seen by others on my trip.....

When is the last time you sat and drove your perfect car across America....... My car is a dynamic piece of history that people see on the road every day....not a static exhibit....... There is room for all in the corvette world.....it is not a hobby for me.......it is my car......a car I try to drive every day......

What is your point....you don't have to participate.....in this post...

          Jack

PS the steering wheel is out because Gary Ramaldi is rebuilding the steering box.....one that wore out after 300,000 great miles ...the battery is disconnected as per smart thinking when you are working on the alternator that was not clocked correctly but was pointed out to me.....see the pictures in the other post

              Jack,

Since it's in a high visibility location and easily corrected, you might want to replace your current alternator adjustment bolt. I think "RBW", "NAT" or "WB" headmark (Grade 2 regular hex) should be okay for 1966. Also the thick flat washer and external tooth washer to go with it (see UPC 6-A2).

Re: Judge my engine bay ....I can take it....

Scott, thanks.....I knew it did not look right as I always remembered a washer and external tool washer........long lost about 4 or 5 alternators ago.

My goal is to correct most viewable items that may be wrong.......water pump...fuel pump......I have all the old parts.......

                  Jack,
You have much information from ncrs C2 guys. Good. My suggestion is for you to get the ncrs 1966 judging book, down load the '66 mechanical judging sheets and judge the vette yourself...that would be a real leaning experience. Good luck

                    Jack,

The engine bay looks nice on your car. Take that black boot on the alternator BAT connection (wire) and slip it up and over the red washer so it stays connected. You don ever want that wire to get shorted to ground..

Hi, I have the JM book. Unfortunately , the pictures of the engine area are not very clear...... The goal is to have the engine compartment look mechanically correct. Dates are not important.....having the correct looking part is the goal.......

I hope that members are having fun giving me tips.........my car is a driver.....a great one....so dirt and grease are part of the patina...When I bought the car 42 years ago....it was intact.......I really have not changed much except the usual pumps, starters etc.....

                        Thanks again for you input....

                          Peter,

                          I had to fight almost 42 years...with my mechanic....my wife......friends.......with myself.......over preserving those numbers......

I am happy that I did........

                          Thank you for the validation.......

                              Fan clutch.....

I am working on the engine bay area........items mentioned in other posts.......I took off my orignal clutch fan about 8 years ago.....thinking it was the problem with overheating........I replaced it with a GM part bought at a GM Chevy dealership.

I am going to put back on the original, since a new DeWitt Radiator cured the problem.....

Pictures of the two clutches , notice the difference in the stud lengths and the housing around bearing.....and one thermal spring and the other a thermal plate...

unit The back of clutch has orange paint on it.............the pulley is painted black......fan black,,,,was back of clutch factory painted or did it get painted by me years ago ?

Re: Judge my engine bay ....I can take it....

Jack, not sure if others have commented on this or not yet, as I didn't read every reply, line for line.

                                1. Upper radiator hose. Check the JM and see if it needs a GM logo on it. I think it does.
                                2. Windshield washer tank. Yours looks aged, a new one would fix that.
                                3. Overall cleanliness. I know this is a daily driven car, but spending some time cleaning the easy to reach spots in the engine bay (top of intake manifold in particular) would probably get you 5 points back and it would be FREE (unless you count the cost of the paper towels and Windex).
                                4. Hood latch overspray. Is your car a St. Louis or an A.O. Smith car? St. Louis cars should have some overspray on both the hood release cable and the hood latches that are bolted to the firewall.
                                5. Hood black out margin. We didn't see that from your photos, but how sharp or fuzzy is the paint line down the outside edge of the hood? That can be fixed pretty easily too with a black rattle can and some patience.
                                6. Hood pins (now I'm talking about the pins on the hood itself). Those should have a little blackout on them, the springs should be black, and the pins should be natural.
                                7. Hood weatherstripping. It should go completely across the top of the hood (trailing edge) and then turn and go down the hood and stop roughly at the hood pin. Sloppy glue should be evident.
                                8. The alternator support arm should be black, check your JM for an exact finish. (glossy vs. semi vs. flat)
                                9. Take some laquer thinner and wipe the cylinder numbers off the valve covers.
                                10. Wire straps near firewall. Check your wiring and washer pump hose routing for how many ties you have. I think there should be 6 total, but check the JM to be sure. The AIM will have the rough locations for those straps.
                                11. Belts. You should have GM stamped belts on the water pump and alternator. Check the JM for details. If you have a set from NAPA, those will likely take a deduct.
                                12. Zerk fitting in clutch Z-bar. Take a look at the BOTTOM of the clutch cross shaft. There is likely a zerk fitting in there now. Long Island and others sell a little red plug. That plug was in there from the factory, and when the dealership serviced the car the first time, they pulled it and put a zerk fitting in there. Easy and cheap 1 point to get back.
                                13. Distributor cap and wires. The original wires had "Packard" on them. Check yours and look in the JM for more info. Also, your distributor cap, see if it has an AC Delco logo on it and is the right part number.

                                Good luck!
