Bought my 65 327/300 4 speed in early January of 1987, 2 months before my second daughter was born. I've done a frame off and it now sits proudly in my garage along with a completely original 68 Chevelle SS I purchased 2 years ago.055.jpg

I bought my '59 in 1969 (46 years ago) from a fraternity brother for $900 after talking him down from $1200.....I bought set of Coker radial tires for the car last weekend in Bloomington Indianapolis for $1000....prices have certainly gone up!

Good luck with your projects. I agree totally with your three points:
(1) Midyears easy to work on - I'm not a mechanic but do lots myself (small blocks leave much room in engine bay).
(2) NCRS correctiveness is addictive - I never heard of NCRS until about 7 years ago when a friend urged me to joint, helped me to earn Top Flight on 1st try. Now I'm hooked - trying for PV 10/14 Regional, trying for +97% at 2017 National, Duntov?
(3) Love the midyears especially my 67.

Bill --- Not at all; Bit of a story: I had a '65 yellow convertible (VIN 16524) that I bought out of Nagadoches TX in 1980, and liked the color. On that trip south, I answered an ad in the Omaha Herald listing a '75 coupe and a '65 air tanker (check comparative prices in the pic below). Went to look and the car was in red metalflake . But when it showed up in Hemmings a few months later, I knew I had to act.

In 1988, I was at a car show in Colorado, and an acquaintance (who I knew through a tanker survey) introduced me to an exotic car dealer that had a convertible that was the last 1965 made (VIN 23564) and was a 396, which made it the last of those, too. And it was yellow !! I left without buying; could'a had it for $25K then, but the next issue of the Corvette Restorer had a paragraph by John Amgwert about the car being found, with a pencil rubbing of the VIN tag. I got back to the dealer and the price was now $30K (thanks to NCRS article). Bought the car, paying five times what the coupe ended up costing me.

I have had my 1966 Trophy blue convertible so long that parts, including the cylinder case, are listed in Noland's book, Volume 2. It's still a great "Technical & Restoration Guide", by the way. GM Executive (at Harrison Radiator Division) Mr. L. Wright picked it up at Hartway Motors in Medina, NY in October, 1965. It landed in my hands in the early 70s.

I keep Corvettes....my daily drivers well..5 new cars in less than 2 yrs. Yes there IS something wrong with me!
