Re: pure stock drags
I have attended these drags the last two years in Michigan. It is real neat to see all these old muscle cars run . Almost all the cars look extremely well restored to their original specs inside and out. I have a 69 L71 that I was thinking about participating. After talking to the corvette competitors , I found that these cars are what they look to be and much more. The rules call for OEM components but allow internal parts much upgraded from my L-71 and even L-88 of yesteryear. Same with transmission and rear end. All the Corvettes were running stock type rear/suspensions with major improvements in axles etc. The wide oval tires looked OEM, but seemed to be a very soft, sticky compound. The Penningtons were very nice to talk to and very willing to talk about their beautiful race cars. All in all, my 69-L71 would not be competitive without major upgrades to the entire driveline. In my opinion, you restore a car for a pure stock drag car. It looks to be an organization wanting to grow and expand which is terrific for our hobby, but a totally pure engine etc could not be competitive.
