I downloaded the S/W and a scan is running. Based upon the number of files I have and the speed of the scan I estimate it will take 14 hours to complete. Already running for two hours. Is 14 hours normal for a quick scan?

Normally a quick scan is 30 minutes. But if there is tons of "trash" in your PC, then who knows ? Gary....

I cleaned up a computer for a friend Monday, took almost 18 hours Harry. It had a &^*% load of crap on it. Several THOUSAND to be closer. His computer was so slow, he would turn it on in the morning, go start a pot of coffee, shower, and when he got back still not loaded up. Amazing in this day and time that everyone is not running ad blockers, malware and virus protection.

Took mine 8 minutes to run a quick scan.

I have had malwarebytes for years on my desktop, but trying to install it on my windoze 8 laptop just doesn.t work. I tried to search the malwarebytes forums for this issue but was unsuccessful.

On the second attempt it loaded just fine. Sorry, must be op error.

The quick scan took 8 minutes on my windows 7 machine and 2.5 hours on my windows XP machine.

Aren't those of us using versions of Linux (Ubuntu in my case) as the operating system essentially worry-free as far as viruses go ?

MAC (Unix-based) and Linux-based computers traditionally have been safe. Just remember to have your firewall rules set properly and you should be fine

your PC gets slower and slower and slower until it quits functioning and your PC can be contagious

Your computer becomes infected, then starts infecting others that are also not protected. Spreads like wildfire.

I wonder if it would be possible for a website to query a computer attempting to log on to see if it has a legitimate anti-virus program running.
