Also try running Superantispyware http://www.superantispyware.com/ they have a free and pay version. I use to run malwarebytes but found that superantispyware found items that malware missed. It also has a portable version you can load on any portable device a CD,DVD,Flash drive etc. This feature allows you run a scan if the malware or virus blocks you from running a normal scan. The virus or malware does not see it as a anti-virus or malware software fixed many a computer with this software feature.

I also use Firefox with a few add on features 1 being WOT (Web of Trust) it will ask you if you really want to go to a site that has been found to have computer safety problems such as a virus and more a nice feature.

about 4 minutes - but I scan once a week for everything I can and back up every other day - one bad virus attack several years ago convinced me you cannot be too cautious

I tried to run the malware scan but my computer stopped the download saying it contained a virus and was deleted.
Any advice on what I should try next?

Did you click on the link Gary posted in the first post? If you did, did you FIRST save the file on your computer? Then, click to install / run the file? It sounds like you already have AV software loaded and it will not allow you to just RUN the file. Or, you may have a VIRUS already and that program is blocking you from running MALWAREBYTES.

Yes, I clicked run the file.
Yes, I do have AV software loaded. But my computer has not always had AV software on it.
So do I have no need to run the malware scan?

Did you first download and save Malwarebytes on your computer? You need to save the file first.

Once you have downloaded the file and saved it on your computer, then you need to install the software. I think you said when you tried to install(?) the installation failed? If that is the case, then the AV software you have on your computer "may" think it is a virus. What kind of AV software are you currently running?

The current AV software I have installed is McAfee. It is provided by our cable/internet company.

I downloaded the malwarebytes and its a trial version. Its about to expire. Can I continue to use this somehow or do I need to purchase?
