I had never restored a Corvette when I started judging. I had restored Cadillacs, Ford, Reos, Chryslers, Packards, Buicks,, even a couple of brass cars. I wanted to learn the system. One of the first judges I worked with was Terry. He had the knowledge, the desire to learn and teach, made a wonderful teacher for me. Not everyone has the talent to even change their own oil, let alone restore a car. But they can take the time and effort to learn and become some of the better judges. On the reverse side I have encountered owners that had restored their own cars and obtained all the awards, get the attitude that I got mine and I will be darned if anyone else ever gets their. While I was 1968-1969 Team Leader, I encountered a couple of those and had to quietly exclude them from my future teams

Some car owners and judges become so focused on the minute details, and think every example that came down down the line were all identical, they lose sight of the forest and focus on the trees

Thank you for the compliment Dick.

I hope you are feeling better. It is late at night for you.

That sounds like my Chapter Meet assignment the last 2 years.
The only good thing is that my Dad owns a 92 and I've looked under the hood more than once. Otherwise it gets very difficult...

At least I've worked on later C1's and some C2's. I'd feel far better on those than C4s but I don't get to choose at a Chapter Meet.

I know what you mean. Sometimes one just has to suck it up and read the manual and hope for the best.

The one I got was an LT4. It should have been close to the Gen II LT1, and I know a bit about those, but numbers and finisher on my DD Caprice are not my strong suit. It just passed 250K. And the Mrs's Caprice is at 245K. We have a race. It turned almost nothing I learned from living with those two cars for well over a decade did me any good except that I knew where some of the parts are on the engine. The thing that saved me was the car had like 9K miles on it. Can you say benifit of the doubt?

BTW: You too are in the Eastern time zone. Late night for all of us.

                Re: Negativity

I always wondered why this site was so polite and professional compared to other automotive forums that I go to so I'm quite concerned that it may be becoming an issue now. My personal experience is that I've never had any negativity from anyone on this site and I'm quite grateful for receiving nothing but help and friendly advice over the years. By nature though the NCRS is a critical group. Generally we are trying to bring these cars back to the way they were and in most cases is easier said than done. The VAST majority of the members are more than willing to use their knowledge to help others achieve their goals so when I receive a comment or answer that I don't like I don't get hurt feelings and my panties in a knot, I just take it as constructive criticism. Everyone has their own way of conversing and some may be more "abrasive" than others but usually that's just their personality and not because they are trying to belittle anyone or their car. I haven't been involved in any of the "I hate GM or C7" threads. Why is anyone even bringing up those topics on a TECHNICAL DISCUSSION BOARD dedicated to Corvettes 15 years and older? That's my 2 cents. So on a nicer note...... who all is going to Carlisle this year?

A couple of years ago I did Ops on a 90's conv. That thing had lights in places I never thought of. We used the manual just to see where things were, let alone how they worked. Previously I had done straight axles and usually only engine compartment.

Roy said that at Dallas earlier this year as I recall. I think the real reason is not the need for a lift but our bellies are too big to get under, or out of, anything but a Peterbilt.

So you were judging a car you knew nothing about and referring to a manual that we all know is not 100% accurate. I rest my case.

Right Terry and Steven (I heard that at Dallas too), maybe just the very slim judges would be qualified for this...., or the ones under 40?

shouldn't be too expensive for a chapter to create 4 ramps to drive the car on...
