Re: C2 value question: auto or 4spd?
Mike,
Your words are depressing me; the owner of a 1967 327/300 Coupe with Powerglide and no A/C! All kidding aside I find the car very well mannered, smooth and dependable. A real treat to drive and it shows very nicely. Sometimes I do yearn for an extra shift or two (TH350 or 200-R4) but for sunny, Sunday afternoon cruises it is an absolute delight. As to power, for my kind of driving it is more than adequate. My yearly trip to the dragstrip and 4-5 runs (Club event) shows about 15.9 secs @ 87mph. That's not fast but I would not label it a dog. It is bang on what I used to manage with a 1979 L-82/TH350.
Was it cheap to buy? Not cheap per se but certainly less than a convertible, four-speed in comparable condition. What really attracted me to the car was its solid, pristine condition. The former owner actually polished the frame each year. It is that clean. The engine block is NOM but a period-correct 327. Above the block (heads, intake, etc.) is original. The history of that block is not known to me and I can only surmise that someone threw a rod at one point. I enjoy the car very much and have no regrets about the PG. Nor in fact the lack of A/C. In this part of Canada last summer we did not have one day go over 30C (86F).
I have never navel-gazed about getting my money back on sale. But based on real market (not Arizona) prices I certainly wouldn't take a bath.
