Re: Big FRICKEN mistake to loose Clem!

I guess one problem I have with being particularly sympathetic to all this is the fact that I don't see this website as being any more than a VERY SMALL component of the NCRS. Sometimes I've gone for months and not looked at it, but when the Driveline or Restorer comes in the mail I'm glued to em. My opinion is that the website itself could sign off tomorrow with little or no serious implication to NCRS because of what it is and what it stands for.

I guess if everybody here who's offered in depth technical advice decided they shouldn't be members because of it, we probably wouldn't have very many dues paying members. The NCRS has ALWAYS been about Corvette nuts helping other Corvette nuts.

Clem, I hope you don't leave us, but don't understand why you don't choose to be a member WITH OR WITHOUT the website, which again I just don't consider a major component of NCRS membership. It's about promoting the hobby, prolonging and preserving the old cars and interest in them for future generations and therefore seeing that it stays alive. I don't see any difference between requiring membership to post on this board and requiring it to have a car participate in an NCRS event.

      If Clem bought his 2008

Corvette from Bob McDorman he would have received a 1 year membership in NCRS.

Let me share a few thoughts...

..."Old, dead and dying..." What a compassionate thought. A lot of us are old, I guess. The dead really are not in the mix any more and the dying... Most of us are... some just sooner than others. Some of us know it is inevitible, some don't yet, but will. Seems a rather cruel way to describe the entire membership of NCRS. Got some facts to back up your insinuation we are all old, dead & dying?

I've been paying my dues to NCRS since 1984. I'm proud of it. I am a member and will continue to be one.

OK, I am retired, I am on a fixed income, I don't have a 2008 Corvette on order.
I used to get paid for advice on how to restore a Corvette. Now, I do it for free. With great pleasure. You don't have to pay me. I may not have all the answers, but I've got a few. And my lousy $35 bucks will go in again next year because I love NCRS, its members and the satisfaction the TDB brings to me.

I'm not looking for a paycheck for my advice - never will. Anyone of the many answers on this TDB can be worth $35 or $35,000. Get a grip guys - it really don't get any better than what is available here. And, if you don't get it, fine, just keep movin' on ... Keep look'in for that free lunch... Best, Dennis

Re: i guess i will not be posting after dec 31 200

I think we should wait with speculation until the proposal is clear what is foreseen as the new functionality of the board.

Personally I wouldn't mind a members only board but I think the board does a lot of good PR for the club and attacts a lot of new members (after they find out the added value of this forum).

I could imagine a solution with a trial period for new members or a number of free postings until you need to become a registered member. Other solutions are also possible.

But let us stop picking on people who work so hard for this organisation. Of course contributing with positive suggestions and expressing concerns is ok...

PS I was at the last board meeting at the Nationals where this was discussed and I got the impression nothing is cast in stones yet. The login functionality is likely going to be added to this website (for a number of reasons) but how this is linked to a new forum setup is still under review...

                greetings,
                Rob.

Re: Let me share a few thoughts...

Being one of the Baby Boomer types (Age 55) We are guilty of starting the Youth Culture of the 60's. Its a shame America seems to have a fixation on Youth. Failing to reconize the value of Experience. With that comes age and exposure to life. The knowledge that "older" NCRS members have is invaluable. The notion of Dead and Dying is idiotic. The NCRS 35 membership is a bargin. I've found the few car shows I've attended the NCRS members I've met have been Very knowledgable and polite. Whether is paid advise or free to be able to get an answer is always apperciated. Keep in mind the 60-plus guy may out live the "Hit by a Beer Truck" 40-something. No Guareentes.

I agree with you 100% Dennis. Member since 1980, retired and don't mind paying $35 a year even though I don't participate as much as I used to. All this discussion over $35 makes no sense. Supporting NCRS, the best Corvette organization out there, is well worth it. Jim Weeks - Member #2978

please explain to me how i would benefit

by paying $35 a year as i do not come here for advice or to ask questions? i only try to help other corvette owners. if what is posted above that the NCRS has $1 mil in the bank i can use the $35 more than the NCRS. JMHO

You benefit by having the personal satisfaction of knowing that you're a part of,and helping to substain what is arguably the greatest organization in the Corvette hobby, and one of the best in all of car collecting.

If everyone who offered financial support to anything (churches, schools, charities, etc, etc) first asked how it would benefit them personally I think this world would be a much different place.

How does the "idiotic" notion of "dead and dying" get associated with paying or not paying $35.00? Re-read my post. It has nothing to do with paying or not paying dues.

                              Recruiting Tool

I think the discussion board is an excellent tool for recruiting and as noted, I would think many of folks have joined after lurking for a while. In particular, I bet there are dozens of posts from Jack Humphrey extolling the benefits of joining NCRS and buying the technical manuals and getting involved. Many other have posted over the years about the benefits of NCRS membership. It's a place that may come up on a google search, and once they see the quality of the forum, they may consider it worthy of their participation.

I have participated on this board for 8 or 9 years. It has grown over the years as has its useage. While I am not a member who is active in the organization, I do like to keep current on this board and regard it as one of the finest technical resources available.

                                Million...Schmillion...

Clemster, I'm beginning to think you want to stay in the "closet"...if your friends ask you if you're an NCRS member, you want to be able to say you only post over here. (yuk, yuk)

Well, OK, then, if you don't want to join us, you can always buy a new computer with a new IP address, and re-register at CF under a new handle. They won't know who you are, and that they've already thrown you off once for insulting one of their big supporters.

But, you and I both know that a person like yourself with a lot of knowledge and experience to offer won't be mentally challenged or respected over there. You can only handle so many threads about what color they should paint their calipers.

PS: Say, there's a dirty rumour floating around that you are ALREADY paying to post over there at "Sharkies Place"...Is that true? I don't know, but I think you've been "outted" (wormy little squealers!).
